The Fly (1956)
Decided to show the boys a classic. The movie really is ahead of it's time, and Patricia Owens and Vincent Price just enhance this movie 10 fold. Grade: A-
The Strangers
I hadn't seen this one since it was in theaters, so it felt petty new to me. Liv Tyler and her exboyfriend find themselves being preyed upon by an evil trio in masks. It's not exactly breaking new ground, but it's effective. Grade: B-
Kong: Skull Island
We needed a good giant monster movie, so this one was popped in the DVD player. It's a fresh take on King Kong, with some pretty big name actors. The special effect and story are action packed and fun. Grade: A-
Castle of Blood
I thought I had seen this Barbara Steele movie many years ago, but I apparently was confusing parts of it with 'Black Sunday'. Anyways, a guy takes a bet that he can't spend a night in a haunted castle. Well, obviously, he winds up wishing he hadn't taken the bet. Barbara Steele really plays her character well. Grade: C-
The Autopsy of Jane Doe
I really liked the forensics approach in the first half of this movie. The second half takes a complete 180˚ turn and goes full supernatural. I really thought they did a good job. Grade: B+
Blood Red Sky
I think we would have enjoyed this movie more if it was about 30 minutes shorter, and if we hadn't watched the trailer first. The first 2/3 of the movie really really engaging and cool; kinda like 'Train to Busan'. But the last 1/3 was just dragging out the horror without advancing the plot. It's a really good film, but not without it's issues. Grade: B-
The Transfiguration
In this modern day drama, a teenage boy may or may not be a vampire. It's an interesting idea, but it just moves a little too slow and never really flushes out the characters. Grade: C-
