Monstober: Days 1 - 3
Old
M. Night Shyamalan has kind of been a sour taste in moviebuff's mouths the past few years. But if you take his legacy out of the equation, 'Old' is a descent movie. It's a creative idea, though not exactly breaking new ground. Honestly, M. Night's cameos where the biggest gripe I had. Grade: B-
Barbarian
Act I: "Why aren't you leaving!"
Act II: "Oh, this dickhead deserves what's coming!"
Act III "I like the belated backstory, but I can't figure out the logistics of this scenario."
Act IV: "Everybody's an idiot! They all deserve this!"
Grade: B+
Predators
I"ve seen good Predator movies, and I've seen bad Predator movies. 'Predators' is a good Predator movie. Sure, no one in a million years would ever believe that Adrien Brody is a war-hardened badass, but the cool action and numerous Predators makes this a fun film. Grade: B
Prey
My wife doesn't like the original 'Predator'. So I heard a lot of, "This is just like the first movie. Who wants to see a movie where the monster's invisible the whole time?" I personally liked this movie. It was a fresh take on the original concept. A native American teenage girl learning how to hunt and kill a Predator was cool. Grade: A-
Hunger
5 strangers wakeup in an underground prison with 4 barrels of water and a numberless clock that ticks backwards everyday. They of course argue a lot and eventually kill each other, all while their captor watches from a spy cam. This movie was low budget, and even less inspired. Grade: D+
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
I'd seen this on horror film lists for years and told myself, "One day I'll watch it." Well...I did. I had expected something a lot more engaging, but it's pretty much just 2 guys in a low budget movie killing folks for no real reason. There's a girl too. She says things... Grade: C
Hocus Pocus 2
I am not a fan of the original 'Hocus Pocus', but I can say that 'Hocus Pocus 2' is better. Not great mind you! It still stars Bett Midler. She still breaks into random songs. But story and production wise, I liked this one better. Grade: B-
The Final Girls
So the BIG mixup had been corrected. My friend suggested I watch this movie last year. I hated it. Turns out, in 2015, two films were made: 'Final Girl' and 'The Final Girls"!! This movie 'The Final Girls' was great! I loved it. Really creative concept and the acting was pretty good too. It's SOOOOO much better than 'Final Girl'. Grade: A-
All About Evil
I like Natasha Lyonne. I like Cassandra Peterson. I like Thomas Dekker. I had forgotten that this movie had never gotten released. I was so happy to see it! It was not good. Grade: D+
