I think North Dakota is bipolar. Last week it was in the 20's or so, then it heated up into the 50's and 60's and it was amazing and all the snow melted. To add to that it was Spring Break so I didn't have school.

All week I had really been wanting to go out to Painted Canyon in the Badlands so I went out before I had to work on Friday. Sadly the Visitor Center out there was closed and all the roads to it had been blocked. I didn't know any other roads to get to it so instead I went to Medora and wondered around there for a while. The only thing that is really open now is the ruins of the slaughter house. All that's left is a chimney and this weird looking metal thing and a fewbricks. In the late 1800's the man who founded Medora started a meat packing plant that he used to ship to as far away as New York. Now, you have to realize that Medora is in North Dakota, in the middle upper part or the country, surrounded by the Badlands. I guess he liked the land...

So yea, the plant burned down in the early 1900's and the town just kinda built up to the east of it. To the north is Theodore Roosevelt National Park which is actually pretty cool if you have a day to waste.

I'm sure your wondering why North Dakota is bipolar, though. It's sleeting out right now, and has been long enough to cover the ground with a good layer. Yesterday it was 58 degrees out and right now it's 27 and dropping. See, bipolar. Not to mention we're supposed to get around a foot of snow. I am so sick of winter. I just want it to be spring so I can go outside and only have to wear a light jacket.

This was about two or three weeks ago when we got dumped on, before it started to melt.

This is Painted Canyon from the highway.

Here is a view of the meat plant. Best overall view I have. It smelled absolutely wonderful out there. Leaves were still on the ground so it smelled like autumn.

Here is the chimney close up.

And the weird metal thing. Not even sure what it was used for.

And just in case you were wondering, we do have cactus in North Dakota. The damned things were everywhere.

Sadly I don't have any pictures of what it looks like outside now and I'm to lazy to get one and try to figure out how to get just that one to download. So here are some pictures from this summer.

This is an old farmstead my family used to own. Sadly I can't seem to upload anymore pictures.
