Something definitely went wrong with Ally McBeal season 5. The rhythm of the story was off though I can't quite put my finger on it. I think it went downhill when they killed Billy. How can they kill Billy? He was the love of her life for crying out loud! Then when it kind of picked up again with Larry, he had to leave too.
I watched it marathon style, and i guess that's why i noticed things. They repeated songs in this season which they never truly have done in seasons 1-4 such as What I did for Love and For Once In My Life and another that isn't really a theme song like Tell Him. If it is a theme song, then it's okay to play the song again and again...did they fire the musical director along with Robert Downey Jr? That girl from LA that Richard met also vanished including Whipper, never to be seen again. Renee was just...gone together with that Billy-replacement guy who dated Elaine. No explanation...just gone!
Why did they have to make Ally a partner? Is that so they could let John Cage go? The case of the losing Cage & Fish business was never solved and that's what I hate most about season 5. Sure 2 associates went but to me that just didn't solve the problem specially when Fish keeps hiring people out of pity.
It was a totally a bad idea for the writers to give ally a child. Why? Because I don't like it. Now, single women out there would just opt to have a kid and not marry. Single blessedness is an alternative calling you know...duh. Why is she so afraid to be alone? They should have just focused on that instead.
It felt like Season 5 didn't really have a clear story, no climax, no resolution, no happy endings but that of Richard Fish. By the way, why weren't Whipper and Ling invited to their informal wedding? Georgia was there, then why not them too?
