Rude Post Office Workers!

When I checked my PO Box on Friday night, there was a note in it saying that I had a package delivered that was too big to fit and that I had to return during business hours to claim it. Since the weekend was upon me, I had to wait until today (Monday) to go to the post office to get my package. I wasn’t expecting anything, so I was clueless as to what would be waiting for me. My mother hadn’t mentioned sending me a package or that my grandmother had sent me one, so it was all a grand mystery to me.

Naturally, the post office was packed with people. During the holiday season, they have two lines: one line for people just buying stamps and special envelops and one for people sending large items. I get into the one for sending large items and packages since I figure they would have my package back there and would be able to easily retrieve it. In my hand is the little yellow claim ticket.

A woman walks by, an older woman who is dressed like she is working in an office and not the post office. All I can guess is what she is some sort of manager. She asks Alfred and I if we need stamps and we both shake our head no. With our answer, she moves on and we continue waiting and waiting. The guy who is doing the stamp/envelop check out points to me and says, “she has a PO Box claim ticket, can you get it.” The woman who asked us if we needed stamps says loudly and smugly, “Well, I asked if she had anything.” All I could do was blink and wonder where she was getting her very obvious dislike for me from and why she was referring to me with such vitriol. And, of course, blatantly lying right in front of me. It was unbelievable.

So, I handed her my slip and she heads back to get my package as if I have just ruined her life.

I wait for my package and when she gets it and brings it to me, she all but THROWS it at my chest. I have to scramble to get the package before it drops. What a horrible woman. I can only imagine her day has been stressful and busy, but I did nothing rude or wrong to her. She’s the one who made her own situation bad by reacting the way she did and then even more by lying.

I couldn’t help but laugh afterward and think to myself, “I bet that woman wanted to shank me!”

So, Juanita at the Jolliff Post Office in Chesapeake, VA… you are horrible at customer service. And lying about something in front of the person who knows you’re lying is just poor form and reflects negatively on no one but you. Merry Christmas to you, too. And I’m glad you throwing my package at me didn’t break the hand spun glass ornament that my grandmother sent me this year.
