A girl died in 1933 by a homicide murderer. He buried her in the ground when she was still alive. The murdered chanted, "Toma sota balcu" as he buried her. You'll have all the drive you want, all the desire, all the will to succeed. All the potential, all the ambition. And... it'll all go to waste. You won't have the body to take you there.
You're progressing through the system, can see by your posts. I remember the same time - it's great, it's fun. Getting your siu lim tao down, starting chum kiu. But when you start your second form it gets hard. Mindnumbingly so. Suddenly all your joints must flow in one motion. You have to isolate each one independantly - know how your shoulders move, know your hips, know your elbows. Sometimes you'll move hip+elbow, sometimes shoulder+hip.
Won't work if your body has other things to be worrying about. You'll hit the mother of all plateaus. And the sad thing will be is that without taking care of yourself, both physically and mentally, you risk not getting over it. Your body won't have the physical power to stretch itself; that'll kill you off mentally.
So for all the reasons you do it and all the reasons that aren't enough to stop you now, remember, these beginning stages are great because you're finding your feet and your confidence soars. But you're coming much closer to the between-form-mid-point where you'll need the 'bridge the gap' between them, and you'll need your body working well for it.
So just remind yourself "this is really going to mess up my kung fu." next time you're doing it.
Just a few thoughts.
