A Political Question

The unofficial results of the Somerville Election are as follows:

JOHN R. EDWARDS 264
HILLARY CLINTON 8234
JOSEPH R. BIDEN, JR. 37
CHRISTOPHER J. DODD 5
MIKE GRAVEL 39
BARACK OBAMA 9033
DENNIS J. KUCINICH 73
BILL RICHARDSON 40
NO PREFERENCE 110
WRITE IN 43
BLANK 90

So first of all, yay Barack. But here's the other thing: why would you show up and vote No Preference or leave the card blank? Apparantly, 200 people did so. By contrast, only 64 people voted for the Green Rainbow Party and only 10 Republicans voted "blank" or "No Preference". Can somebody give me an explanation for this?
