I witnessed the analogue internet today folks.
That's right, everyone thought the internet was digital, but alas the internet has been around a lot longer than digital... hell its been around longer than analogue. Maybe we should call it the World Wide Web instead in order to avoid confusion. I walked out of Publix and one of the old bagger guys was there commenting to some other senior fellows about the current state of the hurricane, giving a tell by tell narrative of what was currently going on and the current progress. Unless the gentleman had been listening to the radio while working his news was quite likely several hours old. Of course to him, and his audience it was HOT OFF THE PRESS. So how does this relate to the World Wide Web or even the analogue internet? Well this is after all what the web is. A mash up of thoughts, ideas, rants, raves, comments, blogs, tied to handy dandy visuals. Of course the Analogue web wasn't so robust... the visuals might have been a bit shadier. The key is the transfer of information - we've been doing it for a long time. The Web is the instantaneous access to that transfer of information; which is not the same as instant communication. You may be able to immediately access information but it doesn't mean that its completely current, like our elderly baggers weather report. As I left Publix I wondered why anyone would listen to the man when access to more up-to-date information would be available online, and I realized that the World Wide Web isn't necessarily about getting information fast, or recent, its about getting it; and this gentleman was providing a broadcasting node on the Analogue web keeping the weight of the World... Wide Web on his shoulders. Kudos sir.
Craig's List wins the pntrnt again. And Riverside doubly so.
As many of you know I've recently moved out to an apartment in Riverside. Unfortunately the unit (lol I said penis) doesn't have a dishwasher. Those of you that know me well will know that I'm not the fondest of doing things today that can be done tomorrow. Which means the things tomorrow can be done next week and eventually I have a counter covered in dishes, if I'm smart; or a sink piled high with dishes if I'm not. My Plan(tm) was to stay at my apartment for a year and then try to force the landlord to install a dishwasher to get me to re-sign a lease. Imagine how many dishes there would be after 12 months of not just PRO but EPIC-crastination. So I've been thinking about how to handle this and remembered that a friend of mine had this cool Free standing dishwasher in her old house that she used to connect to the sink. So I started my search, its amazing the amount of time a slacker will put into avoiding spending time doing actual work. I found quite a number of options out there running from $375 to $600 and more. I decided that this would be worth the investment to save me from the need to require a dishwasher in any future apartment searches. So before buying new, I turned to Craig's List to see what used options were available. Lo and behold there was one of the Brand/Models I was interested in for $200.00 used all of 5 times located in Riverside. Score. After going by and taking a look the seller offered not only to deliver it to my apartment but also brought it upstairs. And right now I am listening to the happy sounds of my dishes being done by "not me." Now to figure out a way around loading and clearing the Dishwasher.
Not Rain, nor Snow, nor Glom of Nit.
So Tropical storm Fay has brought many things to Florida, and Jacksonville. Well okay, mainly Fay brought 3 things but in large quantities. Wind, Rain, and days off work. Although I wouldn't hurt for a few more of the last. She also brought me a little bit of pride for our men and women at the post office. I watched a carrier out there this morning in the rain performing due diligence while wind gusts of ~30-40 mph were tearing his rain slicker off him. Too bad when there is no inclement weather they continue to have issues delivering the mail. Either way, Well done, Sir. Well done indeed.
