[For Chris] Dated to October 5

Oct 10, 2007 10:39

Even as the sun began to set behind the trees, Lennox didn't move from where he sat on the beach, a half-empty jar of moonshine held tightly in the curve of his hand. He'd only had a sip or two before he'd been unable to continue, but it felt like something he had to do. Something for Radek.

Some part of Lennox was telling him to get up and go home, but he remained where he was, immobile, uncomfortable, entirely too lost. He knew Chris would likely be worried, but whenever Chris had a bad day, he was allowed to take off for a bit, so Lennox figured he could do the same. And he hadn't gone anywhere, not really. He was just on the beach, staring out at the waves, wondering when the hell it would all stop.

By the time he'd disappeared, Radek hadn't even been speaking to Lennox anymore, but Lennox had been okay with that. He hadn't been happy about it by any means, but he'd understood it and he'd been okay with it. As he'd said to Radek himself once, Lennox would rather him be around to not talk to than watch him slowly kill himself.

Maybe this wasn't any different. Maybe the disappearances were just a different kind of death.

Taking another sip from the jar, Lennox made a face and then settled it back into the sand. It didn't matter, really. He could make it not matter. Lennox had never been tough, he'd never been able to take an emotional beating like some people could, but the island had helped him learn how to deal with it and so he would.

He would make it not matter.
