Thanks to a friend (soon to be not, lol!!) I laboured over to BBC Television Centre to form part of the audience for a game show to be broadcast in August on Beeb 2. She'd been under the impression that it was going to be some sort of witty panel show, à la Mock the Week or QI. Oh, no!! The General Public was involved and it was ba-a-d! Two half-hour shows took THREE HOURS to record, by which time Friend and I had lost the will to live, leave alone supply the requisite ooohs! and aaahs! expected from The Audience.
In addition, the warm-up bloke was about as funny as an attack of piles, though to be fair, he did have an awful lot of time to fill and the old people in the audience seemed to find him amusing. This made me a little happier, as it obviously meant that I have not yet hit my twilight years...
It'll be interesting to watch, just to see what they've managed to salvage with some snappy editing, although the incipient horror of finding that I was filmed pretending to enjoy myself fills me with an indescribable dread! My admiration for shows that go out daily, like Deal or no Deal or Weakest Link (previously non-existent) has risen enormously - how the hell the presenters don't end up slitting their own throats or those of the contestants will remain a Mystery of Life to me. All I can say is that they must be paid gazillions!!!
Definitely not worth the torments of Southeast trains to London Bridge and the Jubilee and the Central Lines to White City! I just thank God we didn't have to pay to get in, or Friend would now be lying in a squashed, electrocuted heap on the live rail...
