Earthquake in Ishikawa Prefecture

Mar 25, 2007 09:47

We just got hit with a four or five earthquake. There was a marked difference in the past earthquakes I have felt before. This one wasn't a jarring, violent type. This one was rolling watch-it! type. In fact, it felt like the whole house was riding atop of a giant wave. Our normally flat wooden floors felt like they were jelly. It was slightly exciting and slightly scary. My brother in law woke up and my wife was downstairs under a beam.

The quake was based in Ishikawa where it was a 6+. They also received tsunami warnings. Ishikawa is about an hour and a half south of her by car along the coast.

The image is from Wikipedia's English page on Ishikawa Prefecture. That's Ishikawa in dark green. Niigata Prefecture, where we live, is just two prefectures up the coast, with the island (Sado) next to it. We are very close. In fact, we are the southern most tip.
