The End of the Moving Process Nears

Mar 20, 2006 16:59

With less than a week to go (I officially move on Friday night), I have completed just about every task with the exception of the final boxes of crap. Today I
  • called my Internet provider and told them to shut me down soon; went to the place that rents me my apartment to get a partial refund on my fire insurance (and found out I was supposed to call the insurance company directly);
  • went to the bank and tried to close my account only to find out that without my account book that I cannot close it at just any ol' branch, but the original issuing branch, so I just cleaned out the account and destroyed the card instead (the account will go sleeper in a few years anyway);
  • went to city hall to let them know I was moving, only to find out I didn't need to (thank god for being an expat in this case -- Japanese persons have a lot of paperwork bullshit to go through, expats just walk into any town they are planning to live in and register. Finished. No fuss, no muss.);
  • went to Yamada Electronics and asked them to come pick up my refrigerator, stove and toaster for recycling since none of the recycle shops will take them (fuck that new electronics resale law, it just cost me $80 USD -- but at least it's done).

Tomorrow I
  • wait for the recycle shop to come by and pick up the sofa, the washing machine, computer desk and anything else I can talk them into taking;
  • wait for Yamada to pop around to pick up the aforementioned crap.

Feels so nice to be almost there. Once all this is finished, I will take the keys back to the apartment rental shop and that will be that. I drive up to Niigata that night, probably arriving something like 9 or 10 pm (originally I was hoping to show up around 7). That's it though; I'll be with Masae after that, so I don't really care. I just want to get it over with and done. Overall, my spirits are high and I could really care less about anything else. =)
