Oh yes I know this type of person all to well! Pontificating is the term that springs to mind. Mention any subject and these people like to try and establish themselves as the fount of all knowledge pertaining to that subject. They then either try undermine your experiences and views or when that doesn't work, they simply talk over you. I actually had a straight gender normative male colleague try and pontificate at me about gender identity and sexuality!?
You have my sympathies for having to deal with such boorish louts. *hugs*
Now, I feel strongly about my national identity, as does everyone
I don't think I do, but then my upbringing was hardly typical. The closest I come is how I feel about my lack of national identity. The country I was born in doesn't exist any more and I didn't live there long enough to have built up an identity from it. I travelled a lot around the UK as a child, so I feel like a perpetual interloper. :-D
I have spent most of my life in Wales but I don't feel any sort of Welshness, or any real connection to it or the UK apart from it being where most of my friends are and where I keep all my stuff :-P
