Fucking accreditation. And more.

First of all, my foot was healing well until earlier. When i got out of my bed, which is about three feet above the ground, i forgot my foot was still weak. So i landed on it, as my right foot is what i usually land on when getting out of bed. So i went back to where i was yesterday, probably worse. The pain subsided now but it's all freaking stiff and shit. Ugh.

This leads me to the accreditation crap. Our profs are being bitches about attendance tomorrow. Man, if my foot doesn't improve, i WILL stay at home tomorrow. But then if i stay home tomorrow people and profs will take it against me and stuff. Well is it my fault that one, i learn nothing important enough for me to attend class regularly? And two, that i NEED TO (not want to - i hate staying at home) stay home coz of an injury? Stupid superficial accreditation shit. The only time our school actually makes moves to improve itself is during accreditation preparation week. And then they're all gone once it's over. i hate people. Not like we're doing anything really related to our course anyway. i really should've taken comp eng or compsci.

Oh and if it rains hard tomorrow, i'm ditching school. They say it's gonna be worse than Ondoy so fuck if i'm gonna stay stuck in traffic for hours with an injury.

i have no proof that my foot's injured, coz i'm not bringing it to a doctor yet, which means i can't make an excuse letter.

You know what, i shouldn't care about peoples' opinion of me, and i don't know why i care now all of a sudden. *employs psychological morphine* Haha.

One of my clients, who paid me big money for this project, asked me to make a GUI for their thesis project. Anyway, a number of things bother me about this.

First is how easy it was - ignoring the fact that i had to learn a new programming language for this, this thing was as easy enough to be a midterm project. Maybe even just a major term project - yet it's their output for their entire thesis? This doesn't go only for my group, but since they based it on a previous study done by a group from UP (Main or LB, i dunno), it goes for at least two thesis groups. Anyway, the only reason i charged a lot of money for this was coz it's a thesis - it was a big job, altho not necessarily a difficult one. i had some problems, particularly with the graphing, but nothing too bad.

Next is how clueless the group i'm working for seems to be. The group i'm working for now doesn't look like they know their equations too well. Coz what i had to do is make their GUI compute and graph data based on some equations they gave me, with graphs, tables and all. Thing is, they knew so little about it that i actually revised some of the information they gave me and made assumptions based on the previous study. i literally had to learn significant aspects the previous study to be able to make this one. The group i work with now gave me the general idea, i had to formulate nearly all the specifics. While explaining the program to them, i was actually the one correcting them, not the other way around. i know they paid me to make the program, but you'd think they'd at least know the theoretical part behind it. On the upside, they can at least keep up when i explain the work to them. Back on topic, worst of all is their THESIS ADVISER seems to know nothing about what they're doing. In fact, i asked the group how they'll be able to tell me if the graphs my program's making are correct - they shrugged and said even their defense wouldn't know, coz the most programming they can do is Microsoft Excel. Wtf?!

Last is how incompetent the previous group was. The previous group's program is hideous. Every button that requires a computation calls more or less the same set of functions, which are hundreds of lines each. So they go ahead and copy-paste the code into each button. WHAT THE FUCK MAN?! HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF FUNCTIONS?!?!?! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKK. Their methods of implementation were so CRUDE and UNWIELDY, and they just copy-pasted these all over the damn place. Much worse was that they barely commented on their code. To learn their equations was like having to untangle spaghetti, with all the sauce and meatballs on it. If i were their thesis adviser i would've failed them outright for how difficult it was to understand their program. Looking at their paper as well, the explanation of the program was all bullshit.

It isn't fair how easy these groups have or had it. Meanwhile we, in my course, have to make actual working machines. i wouldn't be complaining if i was working on robots and i was made queen dominatrix with irrevocable veto powers, but no i'm not so fuck this.

This leads me to my second point. The quality of education. If thesis advisers can get away with being as apathetic as this groups adviser then where the hell are we going with our academic lives? i was gonna say ignorant, but then if he managed to become a prof he could probably learn what this group needs to know and help out a bit. Hell, i learned it, and my course is leagues away from theirs. The fact that he doesn't really know anything about what they're *supposed to be* doing shows he just doesn't give a damn.

Mother was bitching on my sister for blaming her teachers in HS for not teaching the lessons properly. Mother said that in her day her profs gave them all the info they needed. Allegedly, they were also all Masters Degree holders taking Doctorates, or already Doctorate degree holders. But mother studied in UP. So she's saying that in UP they spoon-fed their classes??? That's not the UP i know today. The UP i know today hires just any BS degree holder willing to teach for peanuts, and by teach i mean they have an option to really pass on information to their students or just come to class to give tests and do nothing else. Situation's the same in our school, probably worse in my course. What the fuck happened???

acads, stupid, stupid people
