I'm alive and well...

Dec 13, 2008 20:30

Just haven't been on the computer much this week. Skiing and cleaning house and studying for my CDL permit. I got the bus driver gig. Four years of very expensive schooling to drive a bus. I just keep telling myself that a) I'm lucky to find anything up here right now; b) the job pays well; c) there's no shame in driving a bus; and d) it's only ( Read more... )

A friend of ours graduated with a degree in recreational therapy and couldn't find a job, and now he's driving a city bus. He's making more money with the bus than the starting salary of the job he studied for. And he loves the work.

Well the bus won't be paying what my publishing job in DC used to pay. But then not much up here in the mountains would anyway. And given that there's not many jobs period, the bus is a good one. It's just a little frustrating. But I'm going to make the most of it and I think I will enjoy it for being something different. It's just for the ski season though (we don't have year round bus service).

Yay for any job that pays even moderately well right now.

\o/\o/

Did you get good skiing in?

I'm so glad you guys are going to finish that last requirement and get promoted, it should have happened at the last meeting and I'm still disappointed for you about that. I've got kitty on my chest, laundry going full tilt, and I've got to head up to Wilkes before noon to lunch with Jim and buy my mom her present. Is there any beta-ing I can do for you on the fic you've got to write/finish? Did my yuletide thing go through to you? I sent it back to you.

Also! Chris' b-day card should have arrived or will arrive sometime. I know how you don't like to go to the post office

*g*

LOVE YOU

xoxo

I picked up mail on Friday and saw the card was there. It's with the rest of the mail in the truck. ;-) I'll get it to him tonight.

Got some okay skiing in. We've got 7 inches of powder at WP today and I'm tempted to go out, but I've got so much to do. I don't know. We'll see. I've totally scrapped the fic I was writing for today and starting with an entirely new concept and fandom. *head desk* It's for undermistletoe and I can do whatever fandom I want so at least there's that. Then I have to do a Due South fic and my yuletide.

I see I got your yuletide back, I'll look at that today and get back to you. Have a good lunch with Jim. *mwah*

I saw your fic post, it's in my to read pile, I'm so far behind on *everything* right now. ::sighs::

We wound up not lunching, instead I went to see Sandra and his home, it's so neat seeing his stuff being integrated with hers. The vibe of the house is so happy and homey it made me smile just being there. They had a fire outside and we sat around it and chilled out for a couple of hours, it was very VERY nice.

Yay, glad you got a job for the winter! I was gonna ask about the bus, thinking of the woman who'd left for it earlier, and thinking of your experience driving for the last job. I hope it works well - it's definitely a temporary thing, at least, and will get you good skiing, and will hopefully be less stressful than the old job was getting.

Good to hear from you - and I can't believe you can type that much on your phone! Yikes, your skillz floor me :).

It helps that a) my phone has a real keyboard and b) my phone has word recognition. ;-) But even so... my fingers were getting cramped.

The bus driving season actually leads perfectly into EMS training. I think I'll end up with a week break or so between which will be good, and then go right to school every day for a month.
