Random bits

I've been feeling sort of bummed out lately. I don't know if it's over the job that ended up not being a job or what. But I don't feel like doing any of the creative things, like drawing and doing crafty things, in a couple of weeks. Mostly I just want to fart around on the computer, nap and read. I did go to my local used book store and got 5 books for $9, so that was nice. I finished the young adult book "Speak" by Laura Halse Anderson in the space of a day and a half and now I have moved onto Stephen King's "Duma Key." I haven't read a Stephen King book in forever. I honestly can't remember the last time I got one of his books. Possibly it was "After the Sunset" which is a collection of short stories. Anyways, "Duma Key" is starting out pretty good, although I am only in the second chapter.

I'm also buying a new (used) car. My current car is a 1989 Camry that I have had since high school. It's old, it has 180,000 miles on it, it's been in two rear end collisions, so the trunk doesn't work and is held down with bungie cords, the wheel wells are rusting away, the muffler is shot and it growls loudly when I go up hills, it's almost overheated on me twice. However, used car sales men are annoying. I tell them I want a Camry or , Corolla. They say they have some nice Jettas and a Rav 4. I tell them I have $4500 I can spend on the car. They say they have a nice one for only $6000. I've looked on Craigslist for cars for sale by owner, but they either (a) sell really quickly (b) have something wrong with them or (c) the owner speaks poor English, making things very difficult. Or (d) all of the above.

I love baking. Sometimes I think I should just become a 1950's housewife so I can spend all day cooking and baking shit. My inner feminist weeps at this thought. This week I have made a strawberry layer cake for my friend's birthday and a chocolate chip peanut butter cheesecake for a potluck/pool party for my swim team. At said pool party, we played this game that was like a combination of rugby, water polo and a greased pig contest. The point of the game was to get an oiled watermelon from one side of the pool to the other. While the opposing team is trying to fight you every step of the way. I got my foot, hand and knee scrapped on the bottom of the pool, got hit in the arm by the watermelon, got cracked in the windpipe by someone's elbow, got pulled underwater a couple of times and felt VERY claustrophobic and felt like I was going to throw up. It was a lot of fun. Now I have water in my ears.
