Surgery - Part funf

Perry said my surgery only took about 30 - 45 minutes total. He went in, the hernia was about the size of his thumbnail, he pushed it back in and sewed up the surrounding area. No mesh, no difficult, messy work, no problem. Wish I could say the same for the recovery area ( Read more... )

Have you had these "fainting spells" since you came home? Did you have any before the surgery?

Wow thats scarey, what does your doctor have to say about them?

Hope you are feeling better now {{{{{{hugs}}}}}

Unfortunately, yes I have had them both before and after the surgery. I first really noticed them about a year and a half ago. The first few times happened at my in-laws while I was eating. I've gone to the doctor and they did a heart work-up (which was fine) and blood work to check for thyroid (nothing there). He basically said (if I am remembering this correctly) that something is causing my blood to pool in my midsection and my blood pressure drops. My body in an effort to get the blood to my extremities, wants me to faint - it's easier for the heart to pump when the body is horizontal (rather than the 5 or 6 feet up and down to the head and the feet). My heart rate and respiration then speed up to get the blood out and get my body to normal state again. I have gone to a specialist, and have even done the tilting table test (where they try to make this happen). It's not a neurological problem (the nerves that control body temperature and blood pressure are not faulty) but the specialist has gone as far as he can without me ( ... )

My throat is fine (Thankfully)! About a day or two after the surgery it was no longer sore - they did a WONDERFUL job!!

Tummy on the other hand is about 1/2 sore and 1/2 itchy - and COMPLETELY annoying! I want to scratch but can't because I don't want to hurt anything more than it is hurting, and I am about ready for a pain pill which will help the soreness (for a few hours) AND put me to sleep (narcotics can be a GOOD thing - so long as it isn't too long)! I don't need more problems. I asked the nurse how long it would continue to be sore and she said usually the 2 week mark is the time when most people can go without pain meds for longer periods. Mostly now tylenol (during the day) for pain, and the other at night. The only down side there is after about 4 hours (for 6 hour pills) the soreness increases. Sigh.
