Don't Be a Musical Snob

I have a few musical credentials under my belt. I started playing piano when I was three, trumpet when I was ten, started voice lessons at fourteen and ended up with a degree in music education. I know music. I also know a lot of people who know music. And when I say know, I'm not talking about the type who are fanatics, who read Rolling Stone ( Read more... )

You know I'm lol'ing all over the place on this one because we've had similar if not as in-depth discussions. The first thought that came to my head on the opening paragraph was "F'ing hipster douchebags". As a fan of and having spent an evening with the boys of Armor for Sleep the night "Smile for Them" dropped, I have a very different appreciation for "Williamsburg" than most people outside of that part of NY ( ... )

p.s. What the person didn't know was that the burned copy of The Dreaming's EP's was from the original masters. Don't worry, I have the actual CD that the band gave me safely in the house. I just really hoped they listened as none of the electric stuff ever gets played live any more, the acoustic stuff was only ever performed live once and the remixes are all done by Carlton (formerly of Deadsy). They're all pretty rad tracks.

Thanks for the recs. I'll look them up pronto.

As my dear friend Sarah says, I wish people could be arrested for douchebaggery. Like, I wish it was a felony. Then every time I hear someone utter a snobby phrase about some of my favorite music, I could go all citizen's arrest on their ass. Felonious douchebaggery. I love it.

What's unfortunate is that I'm preaching to the choir here. My LJ readers, for the most part, do not engage in this type of felonious douchebaggery.

Douchebaggery. (Had to say it again...)

Felonious douchebaggery is awesome. It needs a t-shirt like "Don't you wish stupid was painful?"

Totally understand the preaching to the choir thing. I write a lot of stuff that I know falls on deaf ears or is never discovered.

Did you get my email response the other day?

Oooh, thanks for the music suggestions as well. :) I will have to check those out.

I was a huge OLP fan in high school and then kind of fell out of touch with them. So it was fun to kind of rediscover them.
