Artist - a person who attempts to recreate an emotion in their audience and if doing it right make them participants rather than observers.

Adam is an artist. Last night he left me breathless. I am glad you also caught that he was "off balance" and the bad note at the end. I almost felt like he was spooked. I've come up with theories of being rushed which by itself can cause nerves but for Adam could also have resulted in him doing warm-ups too early. I felt his voice had a bit of a "cold" sound to it. Fatigue...they run these kids ragged and then the O'Reilly thing not only could have affected his sleep but also just his whole confidence level going on last night.

I swear if 19E has started to break him down, I'm really going to want to hurt people. This week after Lil's critique I started listening to everyone in a different vein...recording success. You'll see my thoughts on all of them in my blog. But the bottom line is that Adam and Allison are the only two I see putting out more than two albums along with their break-out albums charting gold or higher.

p.s. Having a family member who is a lighting tech-the lighting wasn't that great. There was a lot more glare than effect.

I know what you mean when you say "spooked." I felt a bit like that too. He seemed rattled. Whether it was the awful timing of the show (I mean, really. I can get a whole group of middle school kids to have perfect timing. What kind of amateur is directing Idol this year? At the very least they need a time limit on the judges, Oscar playoff music, SOMETHING... so that they don't take a full hour on Lil's critique and leave nothing for the genius that is Adam) or if it was a combination of many others, it wasn't quite the confident Adam I'm used to. Of course I love him more for being human. Goodness knows I have my little routines and procedures before I perform and if I don't have time for them, I never feel my best.

And if 19 steals his soul, he won't be the only one dying inside. We're all aware that there's a true, unique artist in there. Hurting one of us hurts us all, to sound cheesy about it. If he's not allowed to be himself, and comes off as disingenuous, everyone loses.
