Stupid is as stupid does

I did the silliest thing today.

I came into office at 6.45 am thinking that the Aussie market was open, and I had to be there to dutifully cover it. The office was deserted. Inside, it was dark; Outside: the sky was even darker. I had to get the security guard to beep me into office because I had forgotten my staff pass. When 7 am rolled around and the prices on my screen did not move, I had the biggest doh-oh moment. It's boxing day! The Aussies ain't working!

I thought I would be smart and go for a nice, long breakfast before coming back at 8.30 am to cover the Singapore market, but then I stopped short at the door. I didn't have my staff pass to beep myself out. Big sigh. So I went back to sit on my chair and contemplate the meaning of my ridiculous life, as one naturally would after having locked oneself in the office like this. I wondered if ever there was a fire, would I survive jumping 5 floors down. I turned towards the windows and saw that they were grilled up and could not be opened, and with resignation I accepted that I would highly likely die from asphyxiation from the smoke. I wondered who would be the first to find my body. Probably someone from the House Team. Those nutters come in at ungodly hours usually.

Around lunchtime, I realised my staff pass was in my bag all along. Sigh. Sometimes I am so uncool it is really not funny. Come moorookoo, I slow clap for you.

Hope everyone had a better boxing day than me.
