It seems that a large number of people have posted things about 9/11. I wasn't going to for a number of reasons but on reflection, I have decided that maybe I should.
My brother posted a VERY thoughtful article to his blog and I invite you all to read it.
http://wulfgar.typepad.com/a_chicken_is_not_pillage/2006/09/i_remember_thes.html He captured a lot of what I feel about 9/11. I won't forget many of the things he mentioned in his post as I was there to witness them.
The point he has tried to make is that, yes, we need to remember 9/11 but more importantly, we need to get over the pall of fear that descended on this country as a result.
I am an American. I have served in Uniform (actually four uniforms - Military, Firefighter, Police Officer, and Paramedic). I was not raised to live in fear and I damn sure refuse to buy into the "State of Fear" that our government wants us to live under.
No terrorist is going to break down my door. If they do, they are in for a REALLY nasty surprise. Again, I am an American. More - I am a Montanan. I fear NO ONE. They should fear US.
Instead of reliving the Horror of what happened 5 years ago, I think I will go out and do something "normal" today - take a walk (I can do that because I live in a free country), read a newspaper (I can do that because our new services are not controlled by the government, go to dinner (I can do that because our society allows me enough financial freedom that I can afford to pay for dinner once in a while).
If I see a police officer or a fire fighter, I will give them a nod or even a well deserved Thank You. They are there to ensure that we are safe. I will talk to my son who currently serves in the military because he also is serving to keep us safe. What I won't do is cringe, wetting my bed in fear simply because some radical as*wipes decided to take over some planes and fly them into a couple of buildings five years ago. It will take a LOT more than that to make me afraid.
