We should totally talk about how the Lion King is derivative. I do know that an anime producer was asked why they didn't pursue legal action because Disney ripped off Kimba and he replied that since Tezuka was deceased his heirs did not have the money to fight the legal bastion that is Disney and the production company had other concerns and many had been disintegrated, merged into other companies or were so poor as to not make the fight worthwhile. He then stated that he feels that Tezuka would have been happy to see his story adapted by Disney since he long admired Walt's work.

One of my biggest issues is the portrayal of Timon. Timon is a meerkat and those little critters are very social as well as matriarchal. I fell in love with the critters when I saw a film called Animals are Beautiful people. Their social structure, ingenuity and bravery all spoke to me.

I can appreciate the Lion King as a good film for children. But honestly give me Miyazaki any day.
