This is absolutely horrifying. Its really sad that this still happens in our society. I wish people were more respectful.
But I do have to say something, and I really hope you don't take this the wrong way because I love having you as a friend and the last thing I would want to do is offend you. But I hope people know that not all white folk are like this. And sometimes, we're prejudiced against as well.
When I used to hostess, I was accused of being prejudiced for sitting a black family by the bathroom. We were on a 45 minute wait and they were the first name on the list and that was the first table available. I didn't do it on purpose. And I didn't appreciate getting screamed at in the middle of the restaurant for something that was just coincidential.
Everytime there is a crime where a white person beats a black person, it seems to be a racial hate crime. But when a black person hurts a white person, racial crime doesn't even seem to be brought up. Its okay in this country for us to have Black Entertainment Channel. Scholarships for African Americans only. Black entertainment awards. I'd like to see the uproar if we had scholarships available for only caucasian students. Or a White Entertainment Television.
I think racial equality means racial fairness. Whether you're white, black, asian, muslim....everyone deserves equal treatment in this country. That's what equality means. It doesn't mean that blacks should get more rights than whites. It doesn't mean that whites should have "white people trees" (That's pretty ridiculous). Everyone fought for equal rights back in the day, and now it seems that its not so equal at all. Unfortunately race is still a problem in this society. It is unfortunate something like this case had to happen, because it makes it seem like there are so many white people who are just simply prejudiced still. And unfortunately, there are. But unfortunately, there are some africans who are very prejudiced against us as well, and its not very fair either.
I think this country needs to redefine equality. And for as much trouble as these black students got into for this fight, the white students should be punished as well. Because this is highly inappropriate for this day and age and both sides should be treated EQUALLY.
