RAMBLE!

Oct 10, 2007 16:06

Oh boy! Time for another crrraaazy ramble!
Most likely fueled by the pseudoephedrine in the half a packet of Codral I took today. GO IMMUNE SYSTEM GO!
(Perhaps it's a good thing I cannot find my hammer, lest I go on one of those P fuelled death rampages the news always goes on about).

ANYWAY.
Things have been pretty boring lately, what with missing manifest and all (*shakes fist at geology 202*). The field trip was short but fun, am working hard (colouring in counts as work, dammit!) on my field report that's due in on Friday. I think for most of us, the trip passed in a haze due to the rampant flu that was passing around the Geo classes. Thankfully, I was unaffected. Unthankfully, this meant I had to do most of the work for my group. XD
The weather was SHIT, probably coz Barry came with us. Damn Barry and his rain bringing powers. At lunchtime it got sunny though, which was good since my map was rapidly disintegrating in the rain. It was a pretty interesting piece of geology. There were lots of microenvironments, and FIVE layers of rock exposed without ANY tectonic uplift! Which is pretty damn spectacular. We saw some really cool fossils, including giant oysters, which would have made a damn good feed.
Phil Shane's favourite GREYWACKE made a reappearance - he still denies its existence as a rock type. Stupid sedimentologists and their crazy ideas. Other than that, the rock was pretty plane. The quartz veins were pretty though. I want to go to Australia and see the opal mines. Opal is the amorphous form of quartz, I'll have you know!
The drive back was LONG. The van got stuck in second gear. =_= Barry got angered, since this meant he was to miss the Warriors game (probably a good thing since they lost anyway). We passed the time by having an origami war, and singing annoying camp songs. We're so kind to our Barrosaurus!
Irene gave me a cheat sheet in the fossils lab,for classifying conglomerates, which I am very thankful for (even if she did end up wasting half my lab time with it)! We speculate, however, that she was the one who made us sick in the first place. GAH!
The fossils labs are snooze-worthy, interspersed by moments of excitement when we encounter awesome specimens such as the TWO METRE LONG WATER SCORPION. Thank god that went extinct!
Also, apparently the Miocene was full of giant mammal forms. Including A GIANT BEAVER. What is up with all the giant stuff! Must have been somethin in the water (Other than scorpions).

I've been trying to get a job. So far I've been rejected by Farmers, KiKiK, and FOODTOWN. Apparently I'm either too anti-social, or too qualified for such jobs. Goz rekkons I look too much like a potential psychopath. But Goz works at Foodtown slicing deli meats, so i don't trust his opinion. I'm thinkin of giving up and just spending the 3 month summer holidays mooching off other people's road trips and holidays to the beach. Going to the Bay of Islands, eh? I'm sure I can squeeze myself in amongst the luggage...
Also, the first Big Day Out announcement came out recently. It looks like a bloody good line up. RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE ARE COMING! And the Phoenix Foundation, which is waaaayyy cool. I wanna see LCD Soundsystem too. They have some pretty epic electronic beats. Tickets go on sale on the 12th, can't wait!

For now, it is intense cramming time for exams. This year my exam timetable is pretty hardcore. One on the 27th, the 31st, then the 1st. Not much time for study, but at least I finish super early.
Good luck to you all for your studies. I shall update sometime next month.
