New toy

Bought a new 24" Dell 2405FPW LCD a couple of days ago. It arrived at the office merely a day later (owing to the happy confluence of both Dell and yours truly being based in Austin) and I had the pleasure of toting a 35 lb. box the size of a large dresser drawer three blocks to the bus stop, and then home on Capital Metro. It was definitely worth it.

For a long time I had been on the fence about LCDs vs. CRTs. I simply didn't feel that the advantages of an LCD outweighed their significantly higher cost when compared to their glassy brethren. However, around Christmastime my boss decided to buy 19" Samsung LCDs for each of us to use at the office, which pretty much spoiled me. Fortunately, prices have started falling more and more swiftly, and a couple of weeks ago I made the executive decision to pick up one of these Dells the next time they went on sale.

I figure this beast will last me for several years, which makes the price tag relatively easy to swallow. Still, I'll probably be refraining from any further toy purchases for at least the next couple of months...
