This drives me crazy!
I love reading fanfiction, truly, sometimes I enjoy it more than the movie or TV show, ect. it is based off of -whatever. I love it, but when writers make sentences like this- it just irks me. I'm not saying i can do it better (because I so can not!) but I feel like the writer is being a little lazy when I read this.
If the character was actually, physically going to stand there for a few minutes then, okay, yes this works, but more than half the time the writer is indicating a fleeting moment, not minute.
Write what you mean people!
