So I am, by definition, circus-fucked. Turns out the one and only exam I have is not on Monday, but on Friday (you mean tomorrow? shit son!). I found this out last night while working on the first of my two final assignments, also due tomorrow. At the moment, I'm done with my art history take-home test/essay and working on the second essay for my history course. At around midnight when I (hopefully) complete this essay, I will commence studying and cramming for a course I have barely gone to all year because a)the professor is boring b)it's one of those shitty 8:30 ones and c)I am a lazy fuck. I think I've reached an end to my initial freak-out and have arrived at a tranquil stage of feeling peaceful/caffeinated. Hopefully this will not mean that I'll lose focus on the work and start procrastinating on the internet searching for a desirable way out. The upside to all this is that at 5pm tomorrow, I will officially be done with academia for the 2005 year and the lazying/boozing/making year-end albums list/doing fuck-all can commence. I plan on renting a lot of mid-90's coming of age movies like Heathers and Stealing Beauty and drinking copious amounts of champagne, which I miss quite a bit these days. Also, to anyone who's looking for something to do on Sunday night between the hours of 7 and 9pm, or just a good way to distract yourself from academic suicide, come check out the screening for 2046 at Etherington. It's the film I've been harping on about for quite some time now and was my favourite movie of the past year. I'll be there, of course, considering I've been dying to see it on a proper screen as opposed to a crappy bootleg copy I bought for $2 in China last Christmas.
On a side note, I just saw the full list of nominees for this year's Grammys. I think I can speak for all of us when I say I haven't cared about the Grammys since I was 13, but it's always interesting to see how much the Grammy folks will lower their musical standards. Every year when I read the list of nominees I'm shocked by the presence of a few artists that I actually like. This year, it's LCD Soundsystem, Gorillaz, the new Queens of the Stone Age record and 'Since U Been Gone' (although I wasn't really surprised about that). But then I scroll down and see turd like Black Eyed Peas and the universe is back to normal again. Still, it would be very nice if 'Feel Good Inc.' wins for record of the year. That's who I'll be rootin' for!
p.s. the Mu show turned into this massive warehouse dance party (I hesitate to use the work 'rave' but it definitely had most, if not all of the elements) that lasted well into the wee hours of the morning. DJs Will Munro and Dig Doug spun some amazing shit, including ESG, an awesome electro version of 'I'm Waiting for the Man', Tiga, Soulwax mash-up, Lady Sovereign (made me feel a bit better about missing the show), Nintendo/'Galang' mash-up, etc. This was the one show/party I've been searching for all year and I found it. My only hope is to find it again. Oh, and Matsumi is a fucking legend.
