Just to let everyone know we're unaffected so far, although I was in Croydon on a shopping trip yesterday and Lavender Hill/Clapham Junction was a little close for comfort, especially as I used to live alone over a furniture shop round the corner from the main shopping area that took the brunt of the damage.
Some of the kids (and that's all they are), who live in the north London boroughs affected may believe they have a genuine grievance (not that I condone their behaviour in any way), but those further afield are doing this simply because they think it's fun to destroy other peoples' property, homes and livelihoods and the looting seems to be based on a sense of entitlement with some claiming they're just 'getting their taxes back', even though they are too young to have paid much tax yet anyway.
It's a mess, I just hope people come to their senses by tonight.
On a more positive note I just heard some other kids in Liverpool have used the same social media that some rioters have used for co-ordination in order to arrange a voluntary clean up operation, I hope this idea spreads and helps show that not all young people are stupid, irresponsible, thoughtless thugs (and they really aren't).
I can still hear a lot of helicopters around even now, but I think they belong to news crews rather than the police.
