Well I did say...

...that I'd post my thoughts on the season finale of CSI: LV and that I'd let people know here when I was ready to start writing again.

It's now over a week since the finale was shown over here and I think we were the last country to get the show but in case some people haven't seen it yet and because there are some very mild potential spoilers for my upcoming sequel to Cottonwood House and Lost for Words, I'm going to put the rest of this post behind
So, the season finale;
I thought the whole scene between Catherine and Brass regarding bringing Haskell to Vegas was OOC and illogical, all I can think is that it was originally supposed to have been between Catherine and Ecklie and that, for some reason, Mark Vann wasn’t available so they did a fast (and sloppy) rewrite. The only other thoughts I have about that particular bit is that the reminder of Catherine’s connection to Sam Braun, both in that scene and later in the story, is because they want to keep it in our minds in case they need to use it for an exit storyline in case Marg decides to leave the show. You know, something along the lines of she made a really bad decision leading to the attack on Langston, therefore she decides to leave and run Sam’s casino empire (what’s left of it anyway, the Tangiers appears to have been sold to a consortium and the Eclipse has only been mentioned briefly to say they finished building it). I can see them going for that because it leaves Catherine available for cameo appearances once in a while. Anyway that’s all speculation, as far as I know Marg’s future plans have not been made public.

As for Haskell coming to LVPD, it was probably even more illogical than the scene talking about it, but I suppose the writers had to do that in order for him to be able to interact with so many of the team, if they’d left Haskell at Ely only one or two of the team could have gone and whoever they chose wouldn’t have been able to take much of a role in actually catching Jekyll because they’d be too far away.

When I watched the first scene when Haskell spoke to Langston at PD, my protectiveness for Grissom had me feeling quite angry towards the writers, but then I realised that all the stuff that Haskell was saying about the “unsubtle one with the beard” was actually a clever strategy to remind us how evil Haskell is. At least I hope that was the plan, CBS/TPTB always said that Langston wasn’t meant to be a direct replacement for Grissom, and as for it being a “come down” to replace such an eminent criminologist - if I hadn’t taken something that evening to calm me down before the exam, I think I might have exploded, LOL. Still, I did like the way Haskell corrected them on whose the bad guy out of Jekyll and Hyde, at least I could say to myself that Grissom would never have made that mistake!

Anyway, that final scene, I’m not sure Haskell really did want Langston to die, he dropped the weapon straight away before checking where Langston had fallen and Langston’s wrist actually ended up inside the cell, so Haskell could have checked for a pulse and, if necessary, opened a vein or two to make sure Langston really didn’t survive. Still it wasn't much of a cliffhanger, considering CBS pretty much spoilered themselves by making a certain announcement before the episode aired.

Wow, I really am getting into CSI writer’s mode, aren’t I? Which brings me to CHIII, it’s now off the back-burner and onto the whiteboard where I do my plotting. That’s about it though, I still have a few things to work out before it can even become a WIP, like POV(s) and how to have an ending that satisfies people and completes the trilogy but doesn’t end up with a pregnant Sara walking up the aisle to join a fully walking, talking, Grissom. Sorry guys, that's just not going to happen.

I also have a couple of other issues, like I have an idea for an AU ‘how they got Hank’ scene which I’m wondering is too much of a cliché to actually go in, at least in this story and, likewise, there’s going to be a section where we see more of the team and I’ve sort of challenged myself to get Riley and/or Langston in there but, again, I wonder if it will seem too contrived. Anyway, at least with less other stuff on my mind my subconscious can start working on those questions.

As always I'd be pleased to discuss the episode and to hear any ideas regarding my story.
