Just finished watching Breaking Dawn 2

Dec 10, 2012 00:09

Otherwise known as the best movie of the year.

Please can someone make me a GIF of Bella [Spoiler (click to open)]ripping off Aro's head with her bare hands? Thanks muchly!

Nope, not a Twilight fan though I have a "pet the underdog" kind of soft spot for the franchise. But a fantastic movie is a fantastic movie. And in the first 15 minutes of this film, you get to watch ( Read more... )

First, yay, you're back, hon! *huggles*

About Elena vs Bella I respectfully disagree with this. Granted I didn't watch Breaking Dawn part 2 (nor part one actually, the story has become way too unhealthy for me) and even though I always liked Bella, she's definitely not the poster girl for independence and feminism. Meyer turned her into a Mary Sue when she became a vampire, that's all. As a human she didn't have a single interest in her entire life, she couldn't give a damn about her father (heck even her mother) and what dying would do to him.

Summary, she gave it all up... for a guy because she didn't even care about herself.

Elena is way different, she didn't need to be turned into a vampire to be a badass. She cares for her family, always puts other's needs before herself, actually has friends who are not related to the Salvatores and actually cares about her future beyond the Salvatore brothers as well. The sire bond thing is probably fake (there are too many inconsistencies) and even if it's true it's been shown time and time again Elena is still challenging Damon (like when she went after Connor even when Damon didn't want her to).

Lol, we'll probably have to agree to disagree on this! ;)

Love your icon though, I thought I was the only one watching and liking this show!

Awwww. *hugs* back! Which just makes me feel bad because you know I won't just be numb now, will you?

Granted I didn't watch Breaking Dawn part 2 (nor part one actually, the story has become way too unhealthy for me)

Well, if by unhealthy you mean that Edward Cullen didn’t kill innocents and allies, raped Bella’s best friends and turned them into slaves, was once a mass-murdering ripper of young women, and, lest I forget… never killed her brother in front of her eyes. Then yeah, Breaking Dawn is positively unwatchable. Not enough love triangles between mass-murderer and brother-murderer. And anytime, any day, please give me Mary Sue Super-Strong Super-Sexy Bella any day over the whining, blood-hurling, revolving-door-of-romantic-triangles, sired doppelganger-sue that Elena Gilbert is.

Elena is way different, she didn't need to be turned into a vampire to be a badass. She cares for her family, always puts other's needs before herself, actually has friends who are not related to the Salvatores and actually cares about her future beyond the Salvatore brothers as well.

Wow.

Just.
Wow.

Are we watching the same show?

I mean.. where do I start?

She cares for her family,
I’m sure it will give Jeremy warm feelings in his heart to find out his sister is in love with the guy that broke his neck in front of her.

always puts other's needs before herself
Which is why John, Jenna, Alaric, Bonnie’s mom, and every Black Character that is not Bonnie Bennett has died one way or the other because of Elena.

actually has friends who are not related to the Salvatores
Yes, and nothing says I love you than telling your BFFs to put the past aside, get over their silly little grudges against the guy that raped them and killed their mother, had sex with your mother!!!… and celebrate with you as you bask in your new found love… As His Mind-Controlled Sex Slave.

and actually cares about her future beyond the Salvatore brothers as well.
OK, now you’re just pulling my leg, aren’t you?

We definitely have to agree to dis-agree, ok? :) I am really enjoying BatB. I can't wait for Cat & Vincent to make out! Please Show, make it happen!

Mmh... Yeah, you were a bit aggressive here. :(

For the sake of argument, I'll respond because there are things that I just can't let you say without saying something back :

PART ONE (sorry for the novel :P)

Well, if by unhealthy you mean that Edward Cullen didn’t kill innocents and allies,

Right, he only killed a bunch of bad people... to excuse the fact he just wanted human blood. Edward's a killer too. Heck, everyone killed someone from time to time in Twilight because... THEY ARE VAMPIRES. Except Bella who's a Mary Sue and Carlisle because Carlisle rules all things and should have been the main character.

Also TVD=SHOW ABOUT VAMPIRES. They're not going to brood all day long and sparkle in the sunlight.

Wait... :P

raped Bella’s best friends and turned them into slaves

Okay, no. I'm tired of this rape argument. Damon didn't rape Caroline, she slept with him willingly... when Elena accused her of just that in last episode she never denied it. Was he horrible with her and abusive? Yes, he was. I hated Damon at the start of the show precisely because of his treatment of her. Was he a rapist? No.

and, lest I forget… never killed her brother in front of her eyes.

Said brother is still alive and kicking.... Had Jeremy stayed dead, I would've never wanted Elena to forgive him. As it is, Jeremy himself didn't even hold a grudge. Why should she hate him forever when her brother is still alive and there is no real consequence in the end? Also it took a whole season for her to really forgive him about that (and his impending death...).

Not enough love triangles between mass-murderer and brother-murderer.

Just a book/film about a healthy girl wanting to die for the first guy she meets in high school and ending up dying for a demon spawn and turning into a monster herself.

Also... pedophily.

Nuff said.

And anytime, any day, please give me Mary Sue Super-Strong Super-Sexy Bella

Who's so unrealistic it's not even funny! You avoid commenting on who she was before she became a vampire which was an annoying whiny self-centered bitch who cheated on her fiancé and led on her supposedly best friend who was actually in love with... her eggs. No, not creepy at all.

any day over the whining, blood-hurling, revolving-door-of-romantic-triangles, sired doppelganger-sue that Elena Gilbert is.

Blood-hurling? That happened in ONE episode. Elena at least had trouble with becoming a vampire and didn't become perfect. Revolving door of romantic triangles? If anything she's the one with all the power, the Salvatore brothers were pretty pathetic in last season when they were waiting for her to make a (stupid) choice. Also as i said, we still don't know if she really is sired or not. And even if she is, you can bet she's going to break that sire bond soon enough. Also Tyler was sired too, so the point is...?

What of Renesmee who's imprinted on or whatever they call it in Twilight? Poor girl doesn't even have a choice in the matter... for the rest of her life.

Are we watching the same show?

Apparently not... You seem to hate everything that makes the show interesting. :o

PART TWO

I’m sure it will give Jeremy warm feelings in his heart to find out his sister is in love with the guy that broke his neck in front of her.

Again, Jeremy himself has gotten over it! He's actually buddies with Damon now, so what the hell? Also yeah, Elena has always put Jeremy first.

Yes, and nothing says I love you than telling your BFFs to put the past aside, get over their silly little grudges against the guy that raped them and killed their mother, had sex with your mother!!!…

:o You must be the only one out there siding with Caroline. EVERYONE who's watching the show including recappers who don't give a damn about ships can't stand Caroline anymore. She's a hypocrite. Caroline is flirting with Klaus.... Klaus, the guy who murdered Jenna amidst other things.

Again, no to the rape argument, Caroline didn't even bring it up... Again Abby's not dead. And it's not like Bonnie was particularly close to her, come on. The bitch left her child behind... again... the minute things got bad. So no, no pity for Abby. Sue me.

Bonnie wasn't even judging Elena actually. Sure she wasn't happy about it but she was way more of a BFF than Caroline was. And Bonnie never did evil things at least (not yet but that's another story...) unlike Caroline who's not an angel either.

Sex with Elena's mother? Really, that argument still holds water? Isobel was Elena's biological mother and a cruel ruthless woman who abandoned her child and never looked behind (yet another one...). Also the sex thing happened way before any of them knew Isobel was Elena's real mother. It's not like Damon went and slept with Elena's mother while pining for her. Eww.

I notice all of this happened a long time ago show-wise but never mind...

Let's not talk about all the times Damon saved Elena's life (over and over again), and her friends' (yeah, even Caroline who apparently forgot about it...) and was there for her all the time, loving her unconditionally even when kept choosing his brother over him. Why in the hell would he deserve to be loved, right? *eyeroll*

and celebrate with you as you bask in your new found love… As His Mind-Controlled Sex Slave.

No, no, nooooo...... you haven't been watching the show, I refuse to believe that. A mind-controlled sex slave?! The hell? Those two have wanted to bone each other from the first episode or so. She literally jumped his bones when she was still a human, the fact she's a vampire didn't change that, it even made it worse. she's in love with the guy, God forbid she'd want to have sex with him. (that would be Twilight, right? :P) In case you didn't notice, a mind-controlled sex slave wouldn't clearly dominate in the bedroom like she obviously did at the end of 4x07. Also the sire bond doesn't create feelings. For her to be a mind-controlled sex slave, Damon should've demanded she'd have sex with him. Which he didn't... Because you know, HE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE SIRE BOND.

PART THREE

Which is why John, Jenna, Alaric, Bonnie’s mom, and every Black Character that is not Bonnie Bennett has died one way or the other because of Elena.

The problem is... she didn't have anything to do with those deaths herself! John sacrificed himself, she didn't ask him anything. Jenna was kidnapped and turned and died at the hands of Klaus, there was nothing she could do about it. Alaric?? WTH? This one had absolutely nothing to do with Elena, he died because he became a vampire hunter... because Esther wanted to kill her kids. How does it have anything to do with Elena?

Bonnie's mom isn't even dead-dead, she's a vampire and Elena certainly didn't want that to happen. Feel free to blame the Salvatores on that one. And as for any Black character who isn't Bonnie Bennett... No comment about the so-called racism of the show. I don't see itpersonally. So about the witches who died.... they died of other causes, like Gloria who was killed by Katherine because she was torturing Stefan. Again, Elena didn't have anything to do with this either.

and actually cares about her future beyond the Salvatore brothers as well.
OK, now you’re just pulling my leg, aren’t you?

Well, Elena does have other things going on in her life than men. Bella was thinking about Edward and Jacob and Edward and Jacob... and nothing else. Her life was ridiculously easy from start to finish. Never is she going through difficult stuff. Oh wait, there was this time when her boyfriend left her for 6 months or so. Life's difficult, right?

Elena had her parents' trauma to deal with, she's been taking care of her brother alone without parents. She's been losing every single loved one and parental figures and brutally at that from the start of the show. She even died to save her friend at the end of last season (forgot that on the 'put others's needs above herself' part).

Despite all that, she actually thinks about college as we saw when she visited one earlier in the show. Bella didn't give a damn about it.... Oh right, I forgot, a true woman's destiny is becoming a wife and a mother. *eyeroll*

I'm not even a Twilight hater in fact, I enjoyed it for what it was at first, ie a ridiculous teenage melodrama but then it turned into a propaganda for pro-life activists and pedophile stuff. So yeah, unhealthy, not regretting that word.

anyway...

just curious... If you have such a burning hatred for TVD and its main characters, I have a question... why on Earth are you still watching it? I just don't get it. I highly disliked where Twilight was going as I said so I just stopped watching and lost interest in the franchise. And that was it. If you hadn't pulled TVD into it, I probably wouldn't even have commented on your love for Breaking Dawn and just been happy you were back.

At least we agree on Beauty and the Beast, that's something! lol

Well, I typed out a long, pages-long response to this... then I deleted it and trashed it. I had a choice: I could respond to your response, point by point, line by line, with increasing sarcasm and decreasing politeness, or I could just remember that we're arguing about a fantastical stories and laugh over it.

I was more a fan of TVD than I ever was - or am of Twilight - so it bugs me that I wasted years into a show that has turned into the racist, misogynist, offensive cesspool that it is now. Yeah, Bella is a wife and mother - if the average housewife and mother hunts mountain lions in her spare time and beheads Big Bads with her bare hands. It's hard to imagine why she wants to go to school or have a career, when she is super-powerful and fabulously wealthy, and has an eternity to literally be everything she wants. And this is to say nothing of your insinuation that there is only One True Way to be A Feminist, and to every woman who's only a wife and mother... you're doing it wrong! Everyone needs to take a leaf from Elena Gilbert's book. Nothing says strong, independent woman like words like Sired. At least Bella gets to choose to be a vampire (last time I checked, that was what Feminism was about - giving women the power to choose) and to - gasp! - enjoy being a vampire (unlike Elena who needs her sire to give her permission), without anyone dying for her (and of course, it's not Elena's fault that her Salvatore lovers are so fond of killing people for her; but it is her fault that they continue to be her Salvatore lovers)... and Bella manages to marry a man who has never killed a relative, slept with a parent, raped (yes, RAPEd) a friend, murdered loved ones...

Oops, I lost track.

Let's just leave it this: you let me be with my pro-Twi and anti-TVD rants on my LJ... and I'll let you be with your pro-TVD and anti-Twi rants on your LJ.

Thank God for BatB. :)

You didn't read anything I wrote about Elena possibly not being sired, right? *sigh*

I wasted years into a show that has turned into the racist, misogynist, offensive cesspool that it is now.

Well, I understand the hatred now. You were disappointed, I get it. At some point I ranted about being disappointed too, remember? I still think half of season 3 was trash, didn't change my mind about it. I don't see the racist or misogynist stuff myself so sorry that's what you got from the show.

I was just surprised we saw things so differently since we saw eye to eye on Star Wars for example and Anakin's bashing from the rest of the fandom despite the horrible things he did so...

I'm not gonna respond to the rest because as you said we're not going to fight about fictional characters. It's your LJ indeed after all. Feel free to think whatever you want to think.

Just for the record though, I don't think being a wife and a mother isn't a good thing, if that's what someone chooses, why not? It's what Meyer is selling through her characters that's bothering me because I'm sure the idea she's trying to sell is that the ONLY way to be really happy as a woman is to be just that. Also yeah I think learning things at school or wherever is important in life even when you're all powerful.

At last lol I never wrote any anti-Twilight rant on my LJ. on the contrary at some point I admitted to liking it. Heck, I even started a Bella/Edward fic at some point (dusting on my hard disk as we speak lol). So no, again, no burning hatred for Twilight from me. Just not my thing anymore, that's all.
