The war and some daily update

Unrelated to the holiday (mostly). We got caught up on most of our shows yesterday although we still have to watch BG and the Unit. 24--interesting. I could see the scenarios occurring in the current season and some of it is scary. Imagine a segment of our own population wanting to repeat the mistake of WWII and interring Muslims and Arabs in camps, depriving them of their property and their liberty. I read a piece of writing comparing the Nazi's to the Jihadists. I think the author made some very good points. We are in a war, and this war doesn't end until one side goes down. We lost 400,000 troops in WWII with 100,000 missing. We've lost 2,200 troops in Iraq. We lost 3,000 in 9/11. The numbers we have lost while much fewer than from WWII are every bit as important, but really nothing should the extremists get a hold of nuclear capabilities, which they will keep trying to do as long as they have breath. It is a shame that a radical segment can cause such a problem and loss of lives (look at the 1 million Iraqis and 2 million Iranians that Saddam Hussein helped send to an early grave. I fear that our legislature will pull out of Iraq, and that that pull out will blow open the civil war in Iraq. Suddenly, our goal to establish a beach head with a democracy in Iraq and the deaths of our soldiers will have been in vain. If we pull out, we have another Vietnam with the exception that we have terrorists and government backed by terrorist who want us dead. Plain and simple. I don't think anyone can argue that point. There are people who will strap bombs to their bodies and believe they will go to heaven when they kill other people who oppose their religious beliefs. If we pull out, the fight will occur in the United States, the weapon will be a terror. 9/11 will happen again if we do not stop the fight in the Middle East. Democracy and religious tolerance are the only true weapons we can wield. Must we fight. I did not feel at first that we should fight. I didn't want the war in Iraq. I was opposed to it. But now I am not. I don't want to see anyone die. I want to see moderation. I want to see peace. But to instill peace in that region and in the world, we must use force and work with our allies in the region (the Iraq government, Saudi Arabia, and Israel) to make a peace that will last.

Many of you will disagree with me, which is fine. But it seems to me that too few Americans are thinking about the long term consequences of ending the war in Iraq and are not looking at history as it's example. If we act like ostriches, we will end up getting shot in the ass.
