The news has really got me embarassed about Canada lately. In 2003 I remember being pretty proud, even if a lot of it was just Chretien going out with a bang. We didn't go to Iraq, we had legalized same-sex marriage, we had no laws against pot...things were good.
Yeah yeah, I know, could be a lot worse, but it could be sooo much better...
"Abdullah Almalki is one of at least eight Muslim-Canadians who have been imprisoned in a foreign country after being questioned by Canadian security agents." But the CIA isn't a factor in these one's for CSIS to blame on the US.
Canadian Copyright legislation goes US and considers dropping the amazing copyright levvy (despite that the head of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act was on CBC a few weeks ago admitting that it was a complete failure and that no, sueing single moms and college students will not, in fact, solve copyright issues).
Omar Khadr:
Human rights groups have criticized Canada's silence regarding the detention of a Canadian minor in Guantanamo. The extradition of Marc Emery to the hands of the FDA
"..what is happening here is a travesty of justice. Emery's case mocks our independence as a country." The Public Service hiring process is completely biased. "The door is all but shut to unilingual white males and that's bad news in this city, where the federal government is just about the only growth industry in town." I've noticed that all the internship programs are now almost exclusively bilingual imperative, aboriginal, or visible minority.
guh.
