It should’ve been simple messenger duty, transfer of information from one location to the next-but as it turned, that information had been sorely wanted by a would be revolutionary from the Earth Country, and in the resulting skirmish, they’d ended up surrounded, separated from the rest of their team, and sorely outnumbered. Sakura was the captain, and running out of ideas--so she staked it all on a long shot.
"Listen, Lee-san," she whispered over her shoulder, standing back to back to him with five missing-nin blocking off every route of escape. "If we get out of this alive…"
And the moment she saw his eyes light up, she knew that they would. Lee could do amazing things-the missing nins hadn’t stood a chance in the end. They’d sorely underestimated the Beautiful Green Beast.
"Hah," their leader had said, getting a look at his limp and his bent wrist and grinning like a hyena. "So Konoha’s sending out cripples now?"
The cripple knocked out his front teeth in the first blow. Afterwards, Sakura had what was left of him and his group tied up and delivered back to Hidden Stone. Her team had ended up getting a bonus for the mission’s completion something that seemed kind of irrelevant in the long run-Sakura had just been glad they’d all gotten home in one piece.
And she didn’t forget about what she’d promised.
"Sakura-san," Lee said after, on their way back to the village, hanging his head bashfully as he wound the bandages back around his knuckles. "You don’t need to. I understand, if you meant it only--"
She’d cut him off. "Don’t be silly, Lee-san. A promise is a promise." It was something she had to say again, when she met him at his door the day after she’d turned in the mission report. "A promise is a promise, Lee-san. Don’t make me repeat myself. Now come on." She beamed up at him, and meant every ounce of it. "Let’s go."
And that was their first date.
This should've been longer. Lee deserves longer--him and Sakura really are fun to write. They're also about the sanest and with Lee being Lee and Sakura being Sakura, that's saying something, I think.
Anyway. They'd have the cutest babies.
