I didn't get enough done yesterday, nice day that it was. It was a day off on my new schedule, and dry, and bright. Once I got back from the barn I thought I'd get some lunch, and get the gas can filled and finish the mowing.
I was online, just done, when the house started swaying. The furnace had just switched on and I wondered if there was going to be a gas explosion, after I realized that what felt like a strong gust of wind hadn't set the trees moving. Then, about a minute later, I thought "Earthquake?" and turned on the Weather Channel. And, sho-'nuff... It isn't weather, but apparently they get all the Natural Phenomena dumped in their laps. Which isn't bad, since they do a good job of it.
I didn't intend to spend the next hour- plus watching the TV and reading "Roadside Geology of Virginia" (which had some interesting things, possibly relevant.) Then I got a call. My cousin had had her baby just before it happened. If little Sarah avoids the nickname "Seismic", it will be a wonder.
Anyways. Noting the possibility of the hurricane this weekend, I went for a load of hay. It's still pretty muddy up by my barn, and more rain will make it impassible for the truck. Again. Wet summer.
So, later, I called my sister, who had left a message. She had heard about the quake, of course. We did some catching up. Since her StarShepherd Creations does costumes (amongst other things), Hallowe'en for my autistic nephew is a big deal. Last year he was Link (I was able to contribute a tinselly puffball for Navi. He ran around with it saying "Listen!") This year, after reviewing an option or two, she held up her copy of Princess Tutu. "How about this? Your Aunt really likes this...." He apparently grabbed it, put in the first disc and watched Akt 1 at single- speed (normally he watches things at 1.5 speed.) Then Akts 2 and 3 before school the next morning.
My nephew thinks I have good taste, it seems. But it was his mother who sat me down and told me to watch, a few years ago... So, anyway. If anyone sees a Mini- Mytho, it might be a family member. Sans wig, as I pointed out, a ballet costume such as that from the Season 1 finale would work for the Renfair too. Versatility is a Good Thing.
