Thursday July 28, 2005

Well, I was going have a vent fest today, but I decided to focus on the good stuff instead since it was really a rather good day. So, here it is:

1. I got to sleep in! Ahh, blissful sleep. How I missed you! I’d been going to bed late the past few days and had to wake up early to help my mom at the house, so I’ve been really sleep deprived. But today, my mom didn’t even try to wake me up till noon, but I had already woken up on my own at 11 am. Sleep is good. :)

2. Survey time! I was just getting ready to walk out the door for my dentist appointment when the phone rang. It was one of those survey things that they say will only take a couple minutes but really ends up taking 15-20. I was already running late, but the lady on the other end sounded really nice and so relieved to find someone that actually met her criteria that I decided to go ahead and do the survey. It did end up taking nearly 15 min and I barely made it to my appointment on time, but she thanked me at the end and told me how much she needed that survey and wished me a good day. It really did make it a good day to help her out.

3. I had my dentist appointment. A normally nerve-racking experience since I almost always have cavities. I have weak enamel, so no matter what I do (brush twice a day, floss, use fluoride), I still manage to get cavities. I actually had 11 cavities at my last visit. Very discouraging. I always feel like I’m taking a final exam and waiting for the verdict to come in every time I go there. But this time, guess what!? NO CAVITIES!!! NADA!!! I felt like I should have gotten a big sticker or something. Seriously. This is a very special occasion. Especially since I’ve really been slacking on my fluoride treatments lately. NO CAVITIES!!! YAY!!!

4. And on another happy note, my jaw locked up yesterday. I have chronic TMJ problems, but usually it doesn’t really bother me much. My jaw just does some major winging when I open and close it. But yesterday, for no reason at all, the right side locked up and was creating intense pain all the way up to my ear whenever I tried to open my mouth or chew. Then, when I went to the dentist appointment, I could barely open my mouth for the cleaning. And when I did open my mouth, my jaw kept locking and I couldn’t close it again without shifting my jaw to the side. Well, none of that’s the happy part. The happy part is that somehow after the cleaning and everything was done, my jaw had magically unlocked and I could move it freely without pain again. It was still a little tender, and still a little hypomobile, but by a few hours later, it was nearly as good as new. YAY! It definitely feels good to be able to move my mouth normally again! :)

5. And on yet another happy note at the dentist’s office, whenever I go there they actually recognize me and ask about how physical therapy school is going and if I graduated and if I found a job yet and how my family vacation went… And how the heck do they actually remember all that stuff about me? Do they right little notes on the side of the charts or something? Then again, my family does see the dentist a little more often than most, so maybe that’s how they remember us. But it still feels nice when they take the time to actually get to know you. So going to the dentist often feels more like a reunion than a doctor’s appointment.

6. Did I mention that I didn’t have any cavities? Seriously, I really think I should have gotten a sticker. I got a goody bag instead, though, with floss and toothpicks and a toothbrush.

7. After I got home from the dentist, my sister and I went straight to karate. I’ve been leading the exercises lately, but Rodney led them tonight and he cracks me up. He definitely has a way with the kids. He knows how to be firm, but still be a lot of fun. I helped my sister teach the newbies during class. Then after karate my sister did a stand on shoulders on me which we haven’t tried for a long time. It’s a balancing move I learned in my gymnastics troupe where one person bases and the other steps off their hip and uses their arms as levers to step up onto their shoulders. I of course base it since my sister weighs a good 20-30 pounds less than I do. It went completely smoothly. She just went straight up with nothing off balance at all. Lots of fun!

8. After karate, my sister and I went to the other house to help our dad move the last of the stuff he wanted out. We filled up a whole other van load. I don’t know where he’s going to find room for all the stuff, but ah well. The good news is that the guy buying our house was there and my dad jokingly asked him if he wanted some cheap labor. The guy actually said yes and said he would pay us $20 an hour to help him clear out the basement on Friday and Saturday. Woohoo! No problemo, especially considering we’ve been doing the same thing the past few months for our parents for free. It seems that whenever I need money, a source magically drops right into my lap.

9. Then, we went home, helped unload the van, and my dad actually took me aside and told me he appreciated how much I’ve been helping him the past few months and he was sorry it was taking away from my studying and asked what he could do to help me. Wow! Where the heck did that come from? I wonder if my sister or mom talked to him because I definitely had a breakdown with both of them yesterday. In any case, it was definitely comforting for him to say that, especially since it was upsetting me so much to always have him and my mom getting on my case about studying when one of the primary reasons I couldn’t study was because I was helping them.

10. Did I mention that I didn't have any cavities? :p

So that’s my post for today. Maybe I’ll vent a bit more later since I still have a lot to get off my chest. But for now, it really doesn’t matter and I’ll just choose to enjoy all the good things from today. :) And now it’s definitely time for me to head to bed since I have to get up semi-early to work at the other house….for actually money this time. YAY!!! :D
