There's under an hour to the race and I can't fucking wait 8DD No matter what, it's gonna be amazing.
I think... I think I'll back Profound Beauty, though Mad Rush is still the favourite... I'd like to see Zipping get it (it'd be nice for an Aussie to beat out the foreign raiders...) as he's in with a chance too... and I still back Varevees on principle, since she's in the same colour silks Archer had when he won the first two cups (in 1861-2), plus she's run distances like this before so you never know... I'd also like to see Moatize win, for two reasons: Clare Lindop could become the first female jockey to win, and Bart Cummings (the trainer, one of the best) would get his 12th Cup.

And there's probably a zillion people out there thinking "it's a horse race, what gives"... well, this is "the race that stops a nation", literally. Pretty much every person in the country will watch a tv, listen to a radio, find some way of seeing/hearing the race. It's part of Australia. 3200 metres and 3 long minutes, of some of the most beautiful animals on earth racing for a $5.5million prize, with has a 148 year history. There's nothing like it <3 Seeing that Cup glittering in the sun (as I just did on tv, when they brought it into the mounting yard), it's enough to bring a tear to the eye... well, to mine anyway, but I'm a sentimental fool, with an undying love for horses (thoroughbreds being among the most gorgeous.... there was this black one before, it was so shiny and omfg *3* Mad Rush looked breathtaking, too...)

And the winner of the 2008 Melbourne Cup was.... Viewed, by the hair of his nose OMFG. And, Bart Cummings wins his 12th Cup (he had like, 3 runners in xD;;;), 50 years to the day since he won his very first. And his birthday is like, next week ^^ He is a LEGEND. I raise my champagne (which might be kinda off *cough, splutter*) to you, Bart Cummings. The greatest trainer in Melbourne Cup history.
...and the jockey is only the same age as me o____O
Oh, and I dunno where the favourites even finished o.O;;; But, surprisingly, I think Varevees was up there, and Moatize was at one point as well. Guess I'm not too bad at picking after all :D And Profound Beauty came 5th, Moatize 6th ^^
