we are all fine people

May 14, 2004 17:14

today was extremely, EXTREMELY odd.

it started out normally- i get to school at 8 for physics tutoring (we were having a test today!) and listen for awhile, then school begins at 8:40 and blah blah...

but around 9:15, the fire alarm goes off! seeing as we JUST had a fire drill this week, we're all thinking there must really be a fire! so we're all excited and interested, and everyone gets out and we stand around for like 10 minutes, wondering what's going on... when an actual fire truck pulls up! and then 2 police cars! and everyone's freaking out... (we were in the front of the school so we had a great view of everything!) and then the HAZMAT people come! and they're wearing their whole clear protective shebangy suits! so we're like... something baaaad is going on in the school, yo...

so we get word that the bad smell that has been filling up the front hallways is SEWAGE that "leaked out and built up on the floor of the basement..." comforting, huh? and there is a build-up of HUMAN METHANE GAS! ...that's fart gas! hahaha! very bad actually. explosive gas is filling up our school at the moment. (miss luck had a candle burning in her room, btw) but yeah... so then everyone is told to get out of the way of the hazmat people- we have to walk toward the student parking lot and the portables... (by this time, there are channel 11 and channel 4 helicopters buzzing over the school!)

so we stand around in the parking lot for awhile (you know, if my camera hadn't been in my backpack, i could have taken some crazy-awesome pictures!) and then the admins are telling us to get in the portables... so i go to the drama portable, where a lot of drama people were already congregated. val comes in, i do her hair, etc. blah blah... then we're in there for like 20 minutes, then they let us out because they've fixed the leak and it's supposedly ok to come back. (later they admit that they had the windows open for TEN MINUTES! TEN MINUTES to let EXPLOSIVE GAS out of a SCHOOL... scary to you too?)

so the day is then normal... until 8th period, when mr. mack leaves and vanessa and i go to physics to see val and end up staying the whole time... mrs. ramos comes on the speakers and calls a cougar alert (which translates into a lock-down). it turns out that a boy was having a seirous asthma attack and he had to be taken out on an ambulance. then she announces that everything's ok but they're holding the bell until the other ambulance can get away from the traffic... so she says, and i quote- "we're re- instigating the cougar alert... or, re- whatever you call it!" poor lady. she's had a very rough day.

then later she comes back on and says that they're about to ring the bell, and she announces, "you're all very fine people. thank you." after such a difficult day, i bet she went home and crashed!

yep. all in a day's work...
