Thanks to
gracewillow I have read Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
It was a good read with a couple of very funny lines. I think I don't understand how the language was used back then so much of the humor might be my blind spot. All in all a good read.
I'm used to reading SF&F where the common trope is "We got started on the wrong foot and we have to somehow get to appreciate each other (and fall in love is optional)." I mean its classic sub-plot #1. Mercedes Lackey, Melissa Scott used it. Even the stage play Wicked has it.
So it was a surprise to see that subplot #1 was the plot for P&P. It was the only plot for P&P and if I don't miss my guess its the inspiration for so many of the books that I've read. I like it but I was surprised that the protagonists were not defeating the Evil Overlord as well. As such I'm not surprised that the guy added in Zombie scenes.
However I think I need to read more of JA's books. Anyone have a copy to lend?
