HOPE????

The problem with hope is that when it fails you yet again, you realize that the pain that comes with it may not be worth it. There is all this glorious anticipation. Hope brings with it the joy of anticipation. Then when it all disappears like dandelion fuzz, what do you do?

Hope is that beautiful package sitting under the Christmas tree with your name on it. You wait patiently to see what it holds. It must be something fabulous!! See how it is wrapped...so carefully. The ribbon is shining round and round the box. Finally, finally it is Christmas and time to open the box. You find that you waited with all that anticipation and joy for something like..... socks??? Now socks can be a very lovely gift and very usable, but when you were expecting something far grander, they are pretty much of a let down. They certainly aren't the bottle of perfume that you had imagined. They aren't the tickets to the play you wanted to see. They are fine and all, but were they worth all the anticipation?

You see, hope does that. It builds things up and you think, yes....maybe. It really could be. You see the hope pushes you forward and soon it turns into belief. Then, the real trouble begins. The lighter the heart becomes with hope, followed by belief, the higher it flies. Which, of course, means that the fall is longer and harder. When we hit the ground, we wonder. We promise ourselves to never go there again. Yet that is the wonder of hope; it is the nature of hope. It pushes us forward....forward....forward.

Then one day before we know it, we are hoping again. We are expectant and patient, believing that this time, yes it must be this time, it will be different. I have begun to wonder though, is it ever different. I'm not sure. Funny, I keep HOPING that it will be, but I just don't know.

Seems like I see and have seen an awful lot of falling balloons of hope....
dropping
slowly
down
down
down....

P O P P O P.....................................

Sounds like more HOPES hitting the ground!!
