Groupie-ness

So, my groupie experience...here are some highlights from my Friday night adventure...

1. "Backstage" was not the chaotic debaucherie I was hoping for. It was pretty mellow and very unglamorous. No half naked groupies, no lines of cocaine, no drugged out, drunk rock stars, no luxurious dressing rooms, no expensive champaigne. Just a bunch of mellow musicians, drinking beers, tuning their guitars and talking tech-talk about drum kits, mics and wiring.

2. Meeting the band was fun. I was glad I met them before I had ever heard or seen them play or I would have been too awestruck to have any normal conversation. We talked about 'the road", their kids, the debate over sleeping on the bus compared to sharing some un-home-like hotel room with one of the roadies and other fun topics.

3. The band ROCKED, and I WAS awestruck when watching them play. They are a kinda rock-n-roll-psychadelic-jam-band band. Bass, drums, keyboard, 2 guitars and a persussionist who played a mean xylaphone. Phil Lesh and Warren Haines (from Allman Brother's fame) came out and played the Dead's "Lovelight" and the Band's "The Weight". I almost cried.

4. I was five feet from Phil Lesh backstage! I am not the "see a celebrity and freak out" kinda gal, so I got a good look and continued on my way to the bathroom to pee.

5. I got to hang out with Karen, a dear coworker/friend who is a fellow music junkie. We ate at a restaurant called Gratitude, where we ate dishes called "You are abundant" and "you are fullfilled", we drank water from bottles with words like "Peace" and "Honor" etched on the glass. We felt abundant, fullfilled, honored and peacefull after the meal.

6. I got in at 3:00 am. And yes, I AM to old for this.

good food, groupies, music
