A Day at Slide Ranch...

Oct 08, 2005 17:11

Anya and I went to Slide Ranch, a small farm overlooking the Pacific that severs as an educational center for kids around the Bay Area. They grow all sorts of organic veggies & fruit, raise sheep, goats and chickens and have classes and workdays so kids can get to know where their food comes from.

Today was their Harvest Day, and Anya and I got a eyeful, earful and noseful of the farm. We picked strawberries, apples and raspberries, saw how bread was made, fed (and pet) the most docile and tolerant chickens and ducks ever, saw where eggs came from, heard fun kiddie bluegrass and folk, climbed the apple tree and hung out with the sheep and goats in the pasture (the sheep were a bit afraid, the goats could give shit). We saw one pregger goat and I got to milk a goat all by myself. I must say. with two years breastfeeding and milk expressing experience, milking a goat was very easy!

We came home tired and smelling like sheep and dust but what a lovely day it was.

By the way, thanks for all the love.....

anya, farms
