FRANCE!

Ok so the French aren't as bad as everyone thinks. Some are even helpful. It does help that we speak french cause at least we understand half of what they say when they go off in tangents. HEHE its funny cause they get all embarassed, or pleased (depending on what they said) when they find out you understand them. It also helps being Canadian. Yay for Canadians. So the first day we got here, we decided against staying in Nice (Nice is nice)and (France is fun...i'm a dork i know) and hopped the train to Antibes instead. Antibes is this pretty, very clean, little town that has lots of beaches. Yes, girls go topless.....and not just young pretty ppl with good bodies.....there are old grandmas that have potbellies and have spent WAY too much time in thhe sun too. Thats quite common here....some people are gonna have skin cancer, no doubt. Its obscene. I mean, i like to have a tan but theres a point when you should cool it! At our hotel i followed the landlady around while she explained everything in a million-miles-an-hour french....i got everything except her explanation of the shower, which i later figured out......and then went back and explained it to the rest of my family. But anyway, on the way to our lovely little hotel, we saw posters for a sum 41 concert. Well, after a brief inquiry at the tourist centre, they still had tickets and we went to the sum 41 concert. It was pretty cool. There were some stupid people throwing each other around and i got landed on a few times....my poor flip flopped feet. We met two girls from Monacco who invited us to come party with them....we never got to the bar but that story comes later...and some guy from switzerland who lifted us onto his shoulders. We almost went crowd surfing but mom would have killed us. Yes, my parents were there too but they sat in the bleachers. The bands that preceded sum 41 were pretty good. someone called luke and another band. To give you an idea...the concert started at 830 and sum 41 got there at about 11. stupid ppl being late, or lazy, didnt really catch which one. At the end of the concert we wandered our buts back to bed, stopping for crepes and water along the way. I swear we're addicted to water. The crepes are good too. The nest day we all woke up fairly late and wandered down to the beach. We now have a basic spot where we lounge. After a day. Impressive yet sad. Dad and i went in search of breakfast and finiding no take out places.....the crepes dont open till 3??? very bizarre, we sat down and had some omlettes. we brought my mom back a coffee and news that we couldnt find any food and she was a bit pissy but oh well. So another day at the beach....kira burnt herself again, and caitie got a bit burnt today too....yay for fake n bake base tans! We decided to go to Monacco for dinner, and mom n dad said we'd be back in time to meet up with those girls (they were staying in antibes for a few days) so we got all dressed up and hopped on a train. Now, the trains we going very slow, and someone warned us there may be a strike. But since they were running we figured it would be ok. We're stupid, we know. Eventually we got to Monacco and went to the casino and the Fairmont hotel for dinner. It was fantastic and expensive. Our waiter was really cool. He had lived in England for 9 years so he could speak very good english, with that lovely english accent and he was impressed that we could speak french. The whole staff was pretty funny, they make jokes ALOT. Some lady got a cicada (like a giant grasshopper that makes annoying noises) on her dessert or something and they took it off and made a joke and brought her a new dessert. The guy that took it off let put it on his hand....and then it flew onto his face. So he closed his eyes and put up his hands in a budha like pose and just stood there while we all laughed. Kira was a bit grossed out but she always is. He then threw it off the balcony...i think. he walked away with it cupped in his hands. So we ordered dessert and consumed it full speed cause we were gonna be late for our train. WE had to take two taxis to the station (we walked to the restaurant) becuase theres some insurance thing where they will ONLY take 4 people and there are NO cars that are big enough to fit 5. Stupid but w/e. So we got to the train station, only to find out that there were no trains, they were on strike and we'd havta wait till morning to catch one!!!! Oh lord what now. We ran into two people from Australia and one from New Zealand...all three living in Europe and decided to share taxis back to Nice. Since We're like a half hour past Nice in Antibes we had to get more taxis to take us to our hotel. If you read Caities lie journal she'll tell you about the cab ride. So anyway, by the time we FINALLY made it back to our hotel we were too tired to go out and find people to party with. I only hope we can find them today cause I want some pictures from that concert. And to meet up with them the next time we get stuck in Monacco. Today we returned to the beach...met some more people and then found this lovely internet cafe. Be assured that we have not fallen of the face of the earth, nor have we been abducted by horny Italian men. lol. Anyway, I should be wrapping up now. Ttyl, don't have too much fun without me ;)
