It doesn't take long for Ami to realize she's not in the home of the Air Nomads any longer, Immediately, a ball of water is resting in her hand, her steps slow and careful. As she walks, frost slowly creeps over the bottom of the ball, ice forming. "What trickery is this?" she murmurs quietly to herself ( Read more... )

"This again?" Mercury's never seen alternates of herself using water in quite that precise way, and thus assumes this is one she hasn't yet met. The fact that she seems a bit younger than some of the others is a good indicator, too.

Ami turns to face the source of the voice... And although there is SOME resemblance to her, she doesn't quite get that she's facing a double just yet. "Those clothes... So did the Water Tribe finally decide to track me down?" She sets her jaw. "I'm not going back!"

"When you're ready to make a little more sense, I'll consider listening to you," Mercury says coolly. Nope, no water tribe here, Ami.

Ami calms. "I thought I was in the Air Nomad area until a few moments ago," she states, "So pardon my disorientation."

"I'll forgive you," Mercury says flippantly. A pause. "The air nomads? You were in the world of the Four Nations?" Oho, apparently this Mercury knows something about the bending nations.

"Of course I was," she replies, "I'm an Icebender."

"It's been awhile since I've met someone from a world like that," Mercury says, eyeing the girl with new interest.

To her mind, this sets everything amid the war of Avatar Aang an Prince - or Fire Lord, as the case may be - Zuko and Azula. As a result, she knows better than to suddenly talk about everything she does know to a water-bender who might her allies' enemy, at least right away.

"Your water-bending should be pretty great, right?" she comments. "I'm also interested in that."

"Who is it you know?" she asks, "And as for my Waterbending, I'm curious as to why you're interested in it."

"There was a water-bender named Katara." Well, that's true, too. In fact, she's fought a few of them, just for training. "So of course I'm interested, because, like you, Water is mine."

"Katara?!" she gapes, "Who doesn't know her?! She's a legend in the Water Tribe. She and Avatar Aang ended the war many years ago!"

"That one?" Mercury asks. A faint smirk touches her lips. He'd been a loud, impetuous, slightly obnoxious kid. Well, maybe he improved.

"Prince Zuko and Lady Azula were also there," she says, now that Ami's reaction to the earlier names has made her a bit more comfortable. "All of us, we used to fight, for training."

Zuko, Fire Lord... Azula, exiled, but left alive... All legends. "You trained with them... But how?" she asks, "You don't look much older than I, and it's been decades since..."

Zuko, companion. Azula, friend. But neither seen in quite some time. As always, friendships are incapable of lasting. It's a thing that doesn't really exist.

"That's probably the fault of this place," Mercury explains. "Time and space aren't the same here. For me, it's only been a handful of months since I saw them. You can see it for yourself, can't you, that we're not the same age, either, you and I?"

"Well, no," admits Ami, "You're maybe a couple of years older than me..."

"It's already obvious we're pretty different," Mercury says. "So tell me what I should know about you."

"As you already know," Ami begins, "I am an Icebender. I ran away from my tribe when it was discovered I learned offensive Waterbending, which was against tribe law. I met a girl named Rei, from the Fire nation. She had a vision about the next Avatar, and had decided to seek her out. I joined her.
