"Your feathers look ruffled." Smirk, smirk. Someone's noticed. Berthier looks quite pleased with herself as always.

Esmeraude's head snaps up. She eyes Berthier. "Back for more?" she questions in a cold tone, fanning herself.

"More what?" Berthier isn't the one who just left. She eyes Esmeraude. "You don't look like it was a man who mussed you up."

She realizes it then almost immediately. The small differences in uniform, and the different demeanor. She stiffens a little, and points her fan at Berthier. "Don't speak so carelessly!" she warns, before it dissolves into an easy laugh. "As if you would know what that looks like."

"More than you would while all you do is chase the prince." Berthier gives a soft, merry laugh of her own.

"Should you brag about that so loudly, Berthier?" Esmeraude challenges. "You should be more concerned that your attention strays so easily from where your loyalty should lie."

"What made you so grumpy today?" Berthier retorts easily, "Did you find a new wrinkle?"

She's not going to be baited out like this so easily (nevermind that she just was). "I'm only disappointed with your performance," she answers, turning partially away and glancing up thoughtfully. She taps her fan to the corner of her mouth. "After all, Demando-sama has placed such hopes in the four of you. And so far, you've only disappointed..."

Hey, that's... that's...! "That's not fair!" Berthier bursts out. "We work hard for Demando-sama! For all of our goals!"

"Then work harder," she answers. "Working hard means nothing if there are only failures. Do you want us to be defeated by the White Moon?"

"No way!" How could any of the higher-ups even ask that? Berthier's the one who carries out all the successful missions! Really! It's not her fault the sailor senshi keep interfering every time and the rabbit has some weird... power.

"Then should you really be squabbling with your sisters, being rude to your superiors and worrying about men other than how you can better improve yourself for Demando-sama's sake?" Esmeraude points out. "This can't be taken lightly!"

"Hmph. The ones who need that talk are my sisters," Berthier says haughtily. "They can't even get their acts together to find a kid. At least I've made progress on capturing the crystal points."

Esmeraude's expression amazingly remains neutral. She can keep emotion off her face when it suits her to be cunning.

"Tell me," she replies, fanning herself for a moment. "What sort of progress have you made that puts you above your sisters?"

"They only know how to flirt with Rubeus-sama and Saffir-sama." As if she never does this herself. "I know how to win."

"You can say that," Esmeraude answers in that easy tone, touching her folded fan thoughtfully to her cheek. "But that doesn't prove anything."
