Awakening the lake monster

He doesn't like the idea, but he has no real choice. Without doing this, they will surely lose the war. Their strength is depleted already. Still, Endymion watches the lake for a long time before he makes his move. He stays grim and serious, expression unchanging. His black armor suits his dark face ( Read more... )

"Spirits are fond of games."

"This is more than a game," Endymion says, the situation too serious to bother with anything but the straight truth. "I have no connection to that creature. It will not stop on its own."

As if to prove his words, it's already circling ahead of them.

"Give him back!!"

"Such demands Prince." She gazes at it calmly. "So then what shall you do when it does not obey."

He doesn't answer directly, already in motion. He chases the creature - which rather humiliatingly takes no notice of him, hovering in the air out of easy reach. It looks around before it seems to truly note Cosmos - and doubles back to zero in on her as its target.

"Give him back!!"

Silver eyes gaze onto the spirit and she tilts her head. She makes no motion to retaliate or fight back. Not yet anyways.

"Move!" He shouldn't even give her the warning, but he does; that thing will not stop, and he- It doesn't matter whether he'd guard her or not because he can't get there anyway.

The creature streams towards Cosmos and slashes at her with its talons.

She taps her staff, a shield of light appearing before her and blocking the talons. She still does not move.

The serpent furiously scratches its talons against the shield; it doesn't even seem to mind the pain that shield must cause it as it continues to rip and shred towards the girl behind it.

He's more startled than he should be by just how vicious the spirit is. Endymion hurries that way, but he is knocked aside by the thrashing tail and takes a moment to regain his feet.

"You should stop now spirit," she said softly as she continued to watch calmly behind the shield She saw Endymion get knocked aside and she tilted her head. "Or are you such a dreadful morning person?"

Something... seems very strange about this Sailor Moon. This is not the situation most conducive to puzzling it out, however, and Endymion decides the greater calm is simply part of her different world.

If the serpent notices these things at all, it makes no difference. It shrieks the same words as always, as if it knows no others. "Give him back!!" It bashes itself relentlessly against that shield.

"I don't have him," she soothed. "If you stopped fighting you would see that spirit. But you are so driven by rage. Is there anything left of true self?" she remains calmly standing behind the shield, not exerting any effort as far as appearances went.

"End your rage. I will release you."

"Give him back!" The creature may as well be a metaphor for Beryl in its mindless jealousy.

Endymion tries to reason with... Sailor Cosmos. "It will not hear you. It is a spirit resurrected to vengeance and jealousy. She has lost who she was before."

She glances at Endymion and offers a small smile before she continued to gaze at the spirit.

"She is not so lost. If she were, she would not still want him."

"She's already become a monster. It's regrettable, but that energy has been feeding her for too long. She can't even be controlled." He stands firm, though he makes no move to stop Cosmos; it's better if the monster is released somehow, even if he's unsure whether he trusts Cosmos to do it even if she can.

"She is no monster. Not a true one," she didn't even wave her hand or lift her staff before the shield around her shifted and formed into a beam. It shot out and wrapped around the spirit, bathing it in a blinding white light. Cosmos did not look away from the light. "It is no sin to love."

The spirit shrieks once more and pulls back, but it's already caught in that horrifying light. It's telling to notice that Endymion pulls away from it half as if he expects to be burned.

But the spirit itself changes form, to the appearance of a beautiful maiden amidst the cherry blossoms as petals fall in a light snow all around. She begins to float away, more graceful this time, higher and higher towards heaven.
