firextinguished hadn't been expecting much out of her birthday, for the simple reason that no one around her knows the date. She should have taken account of the nexus.
shadowedflames, it turns out, has already discovered the treat left: a large buffet table full of cakes and desserts. By the time firextinguished gets there, she's sitting in a chair with a plate of cake on her lap, happily digging in with a fork. firextinguished has nothing to do but join her, and finds a smile herself as she reaches for a plate.
