Here For His Not!Waifu

Nephrite (or Sanjouin Masato, as he was known now), watched the stove with bated breath, his heel bouncing up and down off the ground impatiently. Ami-chan had been down lately, so he did one of the few things he knew to cheer up: make her food. His last attempt at baked goods was a mitigated disaster, but he really thought he had it this time ( Read more... )

Mercury's here, but possibly not the one Nephrite's hoping for. She has a smile on her lips, but it's that amused and slightly mocking one. As much as the sight in front of her actually disturbs her on the same deep level that drove her to help him before, she can't help this reaction to seeing him so hapless.

"It's been awhile, Nephrite," she says. Not with her world's, but she assumes he may be one of the other human Nephrites she's met.

What.

What?

No. Oh HELL no. "Where is he?" he growls, "Where's the bastard that did this to you again? I swear I'll rip his throat out with my own two hands!!" He worked too hard to get Ami out of that place; he wasn't going to lose her again!

What a nice way to immediately provoke her.

"This isn't Kunzite," Mercury says a bit stiffly. "This is my own will." She's sticking to that story, too. At least in front of this Nephrite who's already trying to look down on her.

Stick a knife in his heart, why don't you?

"Why?" he asked, voice dangerously low, his hands clenching into fists. "You... You looked so grateful, when I saved you, so why?"

"Eh? Masato-kun?" Ami steps into the other room and into the rather unprecedented sight of Nephrite - Sanjouin Masato - with an apron and cake.

She can't help a tiny giggle. "It smells better than mine," she admits. Probably looks and tastes better, too.

"N-no way," he manages, happy to see that she liked it, "You know I love your baking, Ami-chan." He pulled out a chair at the table so Ami could have a seat. "Aaah, I have to start the frosting," he muttered, running around the small kitchen.

Right. She knows what he thinks of her baking. But her smile widens at that comment anyway. He only says it at all to cheer her up, and that's what makes it so important from a boy who's usually so angry.

"I still want to eat it," she tells him cheerfully.

"Of course," he said with a nod, pulling out some cocoa powder from the cupboard, "Oh! Good news: I found a job!" Supporting himself (and eventually Ami)? Yes, please.

It takes Ami a moment to recognize that voice. When recognition does dawn, her eyes widen in surprise before she rushes forward, then stops abruptly.

"You're..." she begins, then backs up a step. "Nephrite!"

He beams. "Ami-chan!" he greets, approaching, only to stop at the look on her face, "What's wrong?"

That look. It was all wrong. That smile, however pleasant, wasn't right at all!

Her lips tighten into a thinner line for a moment in hesitation, and the girl straightens a little, expression a little more assertive (she hopes). "Why are you here?" she asks him. It's not accusing or angry, just confused.

"I... live here?" Masato was confused, then his face hardened. "If that bastard has messed with your memory again..."
