Intro post

Usagi sits hunched over a table in a small restaurant, looking a bit uncharacteristically mopey in front of an alarming number of empty soft-drink glasses. She's been here awhile ( Read more... )

...You're not really serious, Nexus, are you?

It's a public place. Kaorinite is kind enough to call her enemy out by her civilian name. "Tsukino Usagi," she hisses venomously once she's close enough, right hand clenching where her Buster staff should be. She's wearing a long black coat, which is luckily enough to not draw too much attention from the other patrons.

There's a tight-lipped smile as she stands by the girl's table. "All alone?" she says in a falsely sweet tone.

Stare. Stare. Stare.

"You!" Usagi stares (even more, who knew it was possible?) at Kaolinite. But she's... but she's...

Have some more staring.

Crap, she can't transform somewhere this public. Even if Kaolinite already knows her identity. But what is she up to? No, there must be a pure heart target here?

Yep, still staring.

"I was, the last time I checked," she answers coolly, that smile turning more to an amused smirk.

This might be interesting.

Kaorinite sits down across from Usagi. "I'm sure you don't mind if I keep you company until your friends come, right?" The waitress paused by their table. "Milk tea," she ordered in a polite tone that could fool anyone.

The woman turned her attentions back to Usagi, and there was something a little less pleasant in her expression.

Don't come, everyone. She totally changed her mind. Being late is good! Never is even better!

This situation is too weird. Even she knows that. Kaolinite is dead. Wait, it has to be alternate doubles again, like Luna said. So she can't be sure what Kaolinite knows. She can't transform. Except, why would Kaolinite be-

Is she the pure-heart target? Oh man, maybe everyone should get here after all. But she probably can't get away to call them.

"Um... I guess it's alright..." she says a bit weakly.

Kaorinite sips quietly at the milk tea she's brought, sitting back in the booth and crossing her legs. Sip ... sip.

"Isn't it interesting?" she says calmly. "How peaceful these people are?" Her gaze flickers over the surface of her tea towards Usagi.

Very interesting. And she'd really like it to stay that way. Very very much.

"Ah... it sounds kind of creepy when you say it like that," she ventures timidly. This is too unreal, sitting here in a restaurant booth with Kaolinite. What should she do??

"Does it?" Kaorinite seems unbothered by that. "You say it as if I intend to change that." There's a curve to her red lips as she glances back down to her cup. It's a smile that at once somehow seems to be of cruel intent and private amusement.

"No- no! I'm not saying that!"

Beat.

"...are you?" Where 'are you' probably means 'are you planning to change it', from her tone.

"Hm," Kaorinite considers the idea over another round of sipping.

Sip.

...
Sip.

"It would be a shame to disrupt the calm, don't you think?" Kaorinite smiles almost pleasantly, but there's something very wrong with the look in her eyes. "Wouldn't it be nice if...it stayed this way? Frozen like this?" A little chuckle. Sip.

Yeah with that tone? She gets it.

"You can't! You can't do something like that! All these people would get hurt! They can't all be pure heart holders anyway, right? So why?"

Whoops, there goes keeping her identity secret. To be fair, she's used to her world's Kaolinite having discovered it before her death.

Don't worry, Kaorinite already knows. She's not going to waste her time otherwise, thank you.

"I'm done with that," she answers. A light laugh. "Why? Why not?" The magus sets her cup down, and glances back to Usagi, expression serious. "Anyway, I'll leave them alone--if you answer a few questions for me."

Way to spring the rabbit trap. Unless she wants Kaolinite to hurt these people anyway-

She can only nod. "Yeah..."

Kaorinite's good at that.

She gestures somewhat carelessly, and the waitress brings a second cup of tea. The magus doesn't lean back with this one. Her tone of voice when she speaks again suggests a conversation where they should be leaning over the table to whisper, but Kaorinite's already closer than she ever thought she would want to be.

"What do you know about the nexus?" she begins.

"I guess even Kaolinite has trouble with the nexus," Usagi ventures. She's trying to pretend this is all normal, see, sitting at a cozy little table with a woman who's tried to kill her more times than she really wants to count and where is everyone?

"But if it's about the nexus, I really don't know anything!" That... is actually entirely believable from an Usagi. And true.

"This is the first time I ever found somewhere like this. Sorry!"

"Yes, even me," she answers, seemingly unperturbed by the words. "It's hard to imagine the nexus would even trifle with someone as useless as yourself and the other senshi." Sip.

"But," she begins again, and her expression darkens slightly. "It seems to. The people from worlds I've met all seem to have one thing in common. Isn't that odd?"

"What is it?" Something in common. She hasn't met enough people here to draw conclusions even if she were trying.
