Usagi sits hunched over a table in a small restaurant, looking a bit uncharacteristically mopey in front of an alarming number of empty soft-drink glasses. She's been here awhile

"What's the matter, Usagi... the others get fed up with you?" It's unlike Mamoru to still be so mean after all these years, but it's typical for this one. He's smirking, coming up from behind her. Oh, how he loves the nexus some days.
First-timer, please be gentle! Except... He really seems kind of serious. It's a little scary, but...
"I see. You're in a bad mood today and I'm bothering you," she says, trying to put a good face on it. "I'm waiting for everyone, but you don't have to stay around, Mamo-chan."
She peers at the 'diagram' but it really tells her a lot less than Mamoru's words.
"I see. A different Mamo-chan." She can't hold on to him, can't run up and hug him, can't kiss him more times than a junior-high student studying for high school should really do, because if there's a Mamo-chan, there has to be another 'her', right? And it'd be horrible to try to come between them.
"I see." She brightens a little anyway, because at least (she thinks) this means he doesn't hate her. "I'd be getting in the way between this Mamo-chan and his Usako. I couldn't do anything that cruel, so, why not at least come have a drink? We're still good friends who always help each other, right?"
It'd break more than her brain. A lot of not being able to put together that Mamoru really could be an enemy is not wanting to believe it could happen again. They've gone through so many things, and they've always been able to get through it, and they can get through it again, too, but she really doesn't want to face it again.
Cheering up stays firmly in place as Mamoru agrees. "Yay! Um, since it's a bother, it's Usako's treat, Ok?"
:D? :D?? She's really trying to hard to fix whatever parts of this situation she can't help dimly realizing.
Why was she making this so hard? Why couldn't she just whine and cry and complain like they all did normally? He'd nod and order a soda when a waiter came by.

"Lucky~! This way, we can make it a date!" Yeah, she's failing to grasp a few things going on here.

"Deserted by our own friends... how does it feel?"

Is he feeling well? Is he getting a cold or something? Is he studying too hard?

"Listen to me, Princess." He starts, removing the sunglasses he had on as he moves to sit down in front of her. "I'm not the Mamoru you think I am."

"Ever heard of the nexus?" He'd pause. "Of course not... but let me give you a crash course. Keep up." He'd make a little diagram on the table.
"This is the nexus. It brings various worlds and realities together. I'm not from your world - I'm from another."

"Usagi, what's going on in your world?"

"Eh? Well, that is, I mean, pure hearts are being targeted and we're trying to protect them and look for the Messiah who'll save the world."
She wouldn't be so hesitant, since she does know the answers, but this situation is shaking her nerves a little in spite of herself.
"Mamo-chan, what about you?"
