Thank goodness the night passed reasonably peacefully where I live. There were a few skirmishes but there were so many police out on the streets that nothing serious occurred

It's amazing how much the attitude of the lower classes buys into the mythology of the upper classes. They're rioting because they don't feel like they're being given enough. They feel like their lordly masters must be more benevolent. You want to break the cycle, make your lordly masters irrelevant instead. Stop burning stuff, breaking stuff, stealing stuff. 'Cause you know what? You're not hitting the top 1%, you're just hurting other middle-class people. The rich all have insurance...
Someone should hang a sign on every empty storefront that didn't come back that says, "Remember the riot? That's why this building is empty. That's why these jobs have left, too."
Glad you are safe and things seem to be quieting down. A couple more nights of extra police presence and they'll be back to their normal everyday boring lives.
